Pet care experience
I started volunteering with dogs at the Humane Society in Portland, OR in 2016 through 2017. There were some extremely shy animals. I would drop off treats at their crates and then after doing that a couple times I’d be able to hand feed them and get them to trust me enough to leash them and get them outside for a quick walk and a much needed break from shelter life. I learned a lot during that time about reading dogs body language. Sometimes I would just sit with them in the crate for a while then gradually start petting them until they learned to trust me. While there I took a basic pet CPR class. I also participated in a basic obedience class that taught us how to teach dogs Sit, Stay, Down etc. I began working with dogs in Boston last fall in 2018. I started at our doggie daycare for a few months conducting temper tests and getting experience managing large groups of active dogs that included de-escalation and correcting unwanted behaviors that could lead to aggression. After that I transitioned to dog walking. In September 2019 I started Animal Behavior College’s (ABC) Dog Trainer Program. Dog walking while taking ABC’s training program has been amazing because as I’ve learned things I’ve been able to apply them the next day. It’s helped me internalize the information while applying it and seeing it in action. I also completed another Pet First Aid class for this program
Reviews
Andrew was a lifesaver when we had to travel abroad for 2 months. Our dog, Ralphie is a sweet boy but he could be dog selective so we could not use any doggy daycare/hotels. We are so grateful that we found Andrew and he was able to watch ralphie for the long-term stay. You could tell right away that Andrew is great with dogs and Ralphie loved him from a first meet-up and an overnight stay trial. Andrew kept in touch with us regularly and my dog was well taken care of. We will use Andrew’s service again when we have to travel.
Shimo had a great time as always with Andrew! It was the longest we’ve ever been away from Shimo and it was a huge relief knowing he was safe and having a great time with Andrew. Shimo came home happy and he normal silly self which we are so grateful for - thank you so much Andrew! You’re the best!
Andrew was great as always with Shimo. It’s always reassuring knowing that he’s safe and having a great time with Andrew.
Muppet loves Andrew and Andrew has done wonders for his quirkiness and behavior issues with other dogs. I would recommend Andrew in a second!

I’ve taught a few puppies from age 3-months to walk with me on a loose leash as well as focus/sit/stay/come and fetch. I’ve used training with other dogs to successfully mitigate the leash-pulling of a bulldog and a 90 lb. hound mix. The bulldog is learning to sit and focus on me if he wants to smell/pee on a telephone pole/tree/corner instead of just pulling at the leash. The hound is learning to sit and focus if he wants to chase squirrels to a tree. The hound is also dog reactive so I’ve worked to desensitize him and started to build a positive association for him with other dogs. Both of them have made incredible progress. My walks are tailored to fit each animal. If your pet is older and slow then the walks will be patient and leisurely to accommodate their aging joints. Some dogs like to sniff every single tree/stone/corner on the block. Puppies and dogs with lots of energy to burn will have a fast paced walk, with an occasional short sprint thrown in here or there to allow them to use up some of that energy. I also offer a fetch session for animals that benefit from even more exercise. I’ve taught a couple dogs to fetch. The instinct to chase comes naturally to most dogs. I use a 50-foot lead for these types of activities and avoid letting dogs off leash unless we’re in a fenced dog park or other fenced area. I use treats during my walks to teach and train the dogs to sit and walk with me. This can prevent pulling on the leash. I also use treats for behavior modification such as teaching them not to bark at other dogs or people.
