Stay-at-home dad with love for pets

Pet care experience

Hi, my name is Andrew! I got my first dog at age 9 and I've loved dogs ever since that day. In my family, our dogs were raised alongside us kids as part of our family, not pets. I've owned a German Shephard mutt, a black Labrador, as well as Mastiff and Rottweiler mixes. I have experience with a wide range of dogs; from smaller breeds to some larger more challenging breeds. I take pride in my ability to recognize a dog's needs and cater my care to their demands. My hobbies include reading, cooking, and anything sports-related, and currently, I've been enjoying spending lots of time with my one-year-old son, Theodore. A huge reason we started to welcome other people's dogs into our home was to teach our son the joy and responsibility of caring for our animal companions. Reach out if you have any inquiries, and I will do my best to reply as soon as possible.

Luna had a great time with Andrew and his family! I received many updates and could tell Luna was in great hands. They will definitely be our preferred choice going forward!

Andrew is the best! My dog had an amazing time with him while I was at work. Andrew was very accommodating with my schedule which sometimes changes day to day. In the morning when walking my dog for drop off she runs to his house excited to see him and his family and whatever friends may be there that day.

Andrew and Jess take such good care of my pup Primo. Primo fits in like part of their family and I know I don’t have to worry while I am away. I will continue to use them for any time I need a sitter- I don’t think Primo would approve of anyone else!

Safety, trust & environment

We have a pretty spacious home that is child and pet-proofed to the max. We have gates at the top and bottom of every staircase, and a large gate separating the kitchen from the living room as well. This allows us to keep our child and any pets safe, as well as separate if need be. We have a very small, fenced-in, back 'yard' (which is really more of a patio), which I use for more frequent potty breaks between walks.

Information Andrew A. would like to know about your pet

For us, being the parents of a small child, it is really important to know if a dog is housebroken, as well as to do a meet and greet at our home, with our son involved. Unfortunately, this does limit our availability for meet and greets to weekday evenings, and weekends. We are sadly unable to accept a pet without a meet and greet prior. Our goal is to provide as loving and caring an experience as possible for your loved one. In order to do so, we have to be able to gauge the level of comfort a dog has with our child since they will be sharing a living space. The meet and greet helps both of us feel comfortable the arrangement can and will work out. Regarding potty training, we have had mild issues with potty training in the past and we can't stress enough the importance of communicating any potty issues with us beforehand. Our one-year-old is dreadfully 'curious' and the last thing anybody wants is for him to find an accident... I'll say less.

A typical day

In our home we try to exercise our animals 3-4 times per day, or as requested. One walk in the morning at wake up, one walk mid-morning between 11 and noon, another afternoon walk between 3-5, and a final walk in the later evening around 8 or 9. This is all dependent on the level of exercise and schedule a dog is used to. Finally, we do intermittent potty breaks for younger puppies or any dog that may need some extra accommodation. Our neighborhood is very safe to walk through, and I will typically walk a loop that goes south through Passyunk or around nearby Columbus Park (on 12th and Wharton). A short walk can last roughly 5-10 minutes and a longer loop between 15-20. For any additional needs, please inform.

Availability

I work from home, so pet care naturally fits into my daily and weekly routines. We wake up at roughly 6 in our home, and dogs can be walked and fed as early as 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 a.m., or after 8 a.m., depending on their personal schedule.
