Pets are family we choose!

Pet care experience

Here's something that I feel describes me pretty well: I have a tendency to call all dogs puppies. 7-years old and just the biggest lap-dog you've ever seen? That is one cute puppy! 14 and blind but mischievous and resourceful enough to go counter-hunting? What a cute puppy! A 6-month old rescue who doesn't yet know that wallets aren't also dog toys? Well, that's one silly puppy. Hi! My name's Andressa, Brazilian-born but raised in the Florida tri-county area. Home is currently Norfolk, VA with my Navy husband, our Great Pyrenees puppy, and our 3 cats. During the week I work from home full-time as a legal assistant, so I am available around the clock. I just can't shake my absolute love for animals - from ferrets to horses to dogs to parakeets. I used to live in Tampa until summer of 2016; occasionally volunteering as a dog-walker for our local Humane Society and regularly walking and pet-sitting my in-law's Springer Spaniel fosters -- the highest number they had in the house was 15! -- when I wasn't working at Busch Gardens. Our fosters were lovely, beautiful dogs, and as a result I've reserved a special spot in my heart just for Springers. And another result of marrying into a family that loves to foster? I just can't find it in me to be unemotional about pet-care, even as I try to make it into a business. There is such a goodness in our pets, sometimes so much so that it takes me aback, how much they can come to love us. To me, pets have always been another kind of family; just as important as the one we're born into. Overnight dog-sitting and day care with me will always be more than just a droll exchange. I love dogs, completely, and trust me: I will love getting to know yours-- I'll spend time interacting with your pet and ensuring they are as comfortable as possible during their temporary vacation or staycation, all the while gently enforcing whatever rules you already have in place in your home. For longer stays and of course with owner approval, dogs will usually be led on longer leisurely walks, or drives to either dog parks or beaches, for richer mental stimulation and a more diverse kind of social interaction. All trips will be discussed and planned beforehand with you, the owner, and any and all directions will be followed to the letter. (Past trips include: Davis Island Dog Park and Beach, Flatwoods Park, Lettuce Lake Park, Dick Kleberg Park.) To me, dog-walking is not just a good way to exercise, but also a time for your pet to explore and discover the world around him/her. I will never rush your pet back home, and a thirty-minute walk with me guarantees a fun time for your pet while fulfilling their need for physical activity. For larger breeds: I understand that their need for physical activity is often greater, and I have no issue with walking them for longer periods of time, and I would absolutely love the chance to take them on a run with me. And finally: My experience with fosters wasn't always ideal, but it left me with a great deal of love and understanding for the mental and physical needs of geriatric (arthritis) and differently abled (blindness) puppers. If your pup requires medication or any sort of additional care, I require that the owner provide a vet contact form in case of emergencies. Anyway, that's it. So excited y'all!

Andressa did an amazing job! She is the ultimate animal lover ☺ She communicated very well and provided me with frequent updates, complete with pictures, while I was away. My home was spotless when I returned and Thor seemed very happy and content. The only downside is you risk your pet wanting to stay with her!!! She truly enjoyed taking care of my baby, as though he was her own. Thank you so much Andressa!!

Their personality, of course! Their favorite toys, their favorite places to explore on their walk, whether or not they like riding with the window down or if they're scared of cars -- anything you feel is important, anything that will assist me in treating them just right. Their routine is important, as well as any quirks/preferences. At first, when I was first filling out this questionnaire, I thought I had no breed preferences. As I rewrote and rewrote my description, I wound putting a little bit of my heart into my writing, and I came to realize that I do! I love Springer Spaniels, I love pitties, Jack Terriers, Greyhounds, Cocker Spaniels, Huskies, Malamutes, German Shepherds... just to name a few!

A typical day

I love going to parks and on long walks, and with an owner's approval I am more than happy to take them on a daily trip to a dog beach or park for some social interaction or to burn off some energy. The apartment complex I live in has a fenced, off-leash, dog park. Ultimately, I strive to find that perfect balance between the owner's parenting style, a dog's needs for a rich experience, and my own desire to have as much fun with your pupper before they go back home to you.
