Informed & Experienced Animal Lover

Pet care experience

*Please read my bio + details in full before requesting a booking. Feel free to direct any questions you have to my Rover inbox and I will get back with you as soon as possible.❤️* *Note on COVID-19*: Currently, all meet and greets will be masked, outdoors and distanced as much as possible. I do have immune compromised family and friends and want to keep them as safe as possible. If you would prefer to set up a video chat in place of an in person meeting, please let me know. I would like to ask that we remain masked during face to face interactions whether outside or at your home. Some people have gotten tripped up/not seen this note, so I've bumped it to the top of my profile to ensure all potential clients can see it. I am fully vaccinated, boosted, and get COVID tested fairly regularly. If you are experiencing any symptoms or have recently been in contact with someone who may be ill, please do not attend meet and greets or drop offs/pick ups in person. .... Hello there! I'm Andie (she/her), a sitter, artist, and animal loving nerd. I have been an active dog parent for over 10 years, and a foster + shelter volunteer for the last 5 or so. Most of the dogs I've raised have come from shelters/rescues, requiring lots of time, trust building, and TLC. I have looked after pets with all kinds of health conditions/support needs, and am equipped to administer medications (see policies on medication in Policies & Agreements), follow a specialized diet/movement plan, and communicate clearly with owners. I understand that pets, like people, are all different and that is what makes them wonderful! I have some experience with other critters too! Rats, lizards, and a rabbit to name a few. :) I relocated a few years ago and now live near West Hollywood, near the Larchmont Village neighborhood. My building is gated and has Ring doorbells installed outside of each unit. My apartment has central A/C, hardwood floors, a spacious living room for playing and lounging, and is on the second floor. Accessibility note: There are a few steps leading to the building's entrance gate followed by a short staircase to the first floor landing, as well as a medium length staircase that leads up to my unit. I can carry small-medium sized pets up/downstairs if needed (as well as any bags) Please note that I live with my partner, Antonio, who is a man. He's a huge animal lover and all the pets who've stayed with me get along with him, but I understand that some animals have had negative past experiences that may make being around a male figure uncomfortable. He does attend meet and greets so the pets can meet him as well. If you have any concerns, feel free to reach out! *Policies & Agreements: Please Read in FULL* Information About Your Pet: Honesty is the best policy! Tell me ahead of time about any concerns you may have as well as details about your pet and their interactions with other humans + animals as well as their history with training, other sitters, etc. As of Fall 2021, I am asking all clients to sign and send back to me a brief form prior to booking attesting that all information they have provided about their pet is truthful and thorough, to the best of their knowledge. I will send you a file either before or after our meet and greet that you can digitally sign or print off, sign, and snap a picture to send back. -All pets whether being boarded/attending day care or house sat for MUST be on adequate flea + tick and heart worm preventive medication and up to date on vaccination records. If a problem occurs with infection/infestation in my home, owners may be subject to additional charges. I ask that all owners provide a copy of their pet's up to date vaccination records and the name of the tick/flea + heart worm medication they are taking. -Pets cannot be fighting an active infection or otherwise ill at the time of booking/beginning of a stay. If a pet displays symptoms of illness including but not limited to vomiting, lethargy, disorientation, dehydration, frequent/painful urination, etc. prior to/at the beginning of the stay I will not be able to go forward with the booking. -Pets should not be underfed for aesthetic purposes or arbitrarily put on diets without solid veterinary involvement. Please send appropriate amounts of food + treats for your pet based on their allergies, medical needs, size/breed, etc. -Prong, shock, and other aversive collars/tools are not safe. I do not use aversive/punishment based training in my home and will not use it with your pets. These things are at the worst abusive and dangerous, and at the least ineffective tactics that confuse the animal. If your dog pulls on leash or displays other behavioral challenges, there are other, safer alternatives to use and these should be researched prior to booking a sitter or adopting new techniques. I use positive reinforcement with all pets in my care. -Dogs that are not properly leash trained (meaning they regularly display behaviors of excessive/unreasonable leash pulling, excessive obstinance, and defiance of basic directives on walks that impedes the ability to walk them safely/properly, lunging, barking or growling at other people/pets) and pets that have no concept of basic commands or have not developed decent listening skills are not suited to boarding and home services. I cannot safely or comfortably walk/work with a pet that is not prepared to take any direction from me, and should not be expected to act as a trainer during a booking. Training is an entirely separate service with it's own rates and requirements and not one that I personally provide. Please tell me about your pet's training history + present as well as anything relevant about their walk style, listening skills, etc. -Medication/Injected Medication: I have experience with various types of pet medication including pills, liquid medicine, and insulin shots and am able to administer them, with the caveat that the pet MUST be comfortable with me giving them their medicine (they cannot be fleeing, hiding, hissing/growling, scratching/biting, etc.) While experienced, patient, and thorough, I am one person and not a team of veterinary assistants able or willing to restrain an animal that is not my own to give them medicine. Aggressive or fearful behavior can lead to injury and/or stress for both myself and the animal. If you are unsure whether your pet would be able to tolerate someone other than you administering medicine, especially injectables, you will need to schedule an extended meet and greet/drop in visit with me to test-run a medication administration process. I have had largely positive experiences with medication administration, and would like to keep it that way for everyone's sake! *Withholding truthful information about your pet, behavior, their needs, training, and history with other people, sitters, or animals is not respectful of me or my pet and will result in the discontinuation of future bookings.* *Meet and Greet Policy*: I do not book for any service without meeting in person/pet to pet first (or in some cases virtually), and require at least a few days in advance in order to allot adequate time for a proper meeting. Meeting is in the best interest of both pets and people! (There are some exceptions in regards to booking on short notice for repeat clients, but in general, I will not be able to accommodate a last minute request.) Please note that I now require an extended meet and greet process for all house sitting and home services which includes an initial meet and greet with you present, and a second visit where I come in separately to walk/interact with your pet. Home services will not be booked until both visits have occurred and I have been able to assess whether myself and the pet have established trust. Drop Offs/Pick Ups for Overnight Stays: Unless we have agreed upon a special arrangement, pets should be picked up on the last day of the stay no later than 4 p.m. Late pick ups w/out prior agreement or advance notice may be charged as a day care stay. I do offer round trip home pick ups and drop offs for a $15 charge! Recommendation for Pets New to Boarding: If your pet has never stayed with someone else or is rarely away from you, I recommend booking at least one day care visit with me before committing to an overnight stay. Day care gives them a chance to acclimate to being in a new environment in small increments instead of all at once. This has worked well for pets I've watched with separation anxiety, low exposure to other dogs/people, or similar concerns! What To Bring For Your Pet's Stay: The basics: food (note how much and when they eat), bowls, approved treats (let me know if they have any allergies or cannot have certain treats), undamaged leash/harness and collar, bed, bedding, crate (if they use one), medication with dosage instructions, favorite toy(s), either digital or printed full care instructions including vet info, contact info, and anything else about your pet's routine, commands they know, personality, etc. -If you are unsure about whether or not your dog should be taking regular medication, either for physical or mental health purposes, please consult with a veterinarian prior to booking. -If your dog has accidents because of anxiety or a medical condition, please do send items you would use to help minimize accidents. Aside from a medical condition, pets that stay with me should be fully potty trained and able to hold their bladder for reasonable periods of time w/out issue. I tend to take dogs out for bathroom breaks and/or full walks about every 3-4 hours, but can make adjustments for your pet if needed. I do not have a yard, so if your dog is used to going out whenever they want and not having to go on walks to relieve themselves, please take that into consideration when booking with me. I do provide puppy pads and have some extra diapers on hand in case! What I Provide: -Separate rooms for feeding, down time (if needed) -Extra treats, toys, blankets, food + water bowls, some pee pads, feeding mats, dog shampoo + conditioner, combs and brushes. -Cuddles (if desired), play and exercise, walks, consistent photo/video/written updates, informed care practices, round the clock supervision and care! I try to keep my space as calm as possible utilizing pet relaxation tools + strategies and am attentive to your pet's needs. If I am in your home, I will also utilize similar strategies including using low/calm vocal tones, certain body language, and things like ambient music to help everyone be as comfortable as possible. <3

Andie was such an amazing dog and house sitter! She watched our dog for 12 days and was extremely attentive the whole time - spending tons of time walking and playing with our dog. Andie even bought our dog a holiday gift. She provided pictures and very detailed updates twice a day, which was very appreciated and gave us great peace of mind while we were traveling. Our dog had a wonderful time with Andie. She left our house spotless too, and even sorted the real mail from the junk mail. We can’t wait for Andie to sit for us again!

Andie was very nice and communicative. She was on time with her drop in visits and I appreciated that. We ran into an issue because she was unable to administer the 2 insulin shots that my cat needed. We had discussed it prior to booking the visits and Andie said she was experienced with providing injections to animals. My cat may have given her a hard time but I would hope someone with experience could manage the injections. It cause a bit of stress on my trip. That said, i appreciate Andie’s help and would recommend her to anyone with lower maintenance pets.

We had such a good experience with Andie. She cared for our dog Baker with love and attention, kept us up to date with check-ins and photos, and was so easy to work with. We will definitely use her to take care of our boy again and again. Thanks Andie!

This was my first time using Rover & getting a sitter for Louie outside of family so as a dog mom I was definitely nervous, but I couldn’t have asked for a better sitter than Andie. She was so understanding and gentle with Louie. I appreciated the meet & greet, her taking the time to make sure Louie was comfortable in her space and the updates. He was in a great mood when I picked him up and I’m looking forward to him staying with you guys again in the future. I’ll know he’s in great hands. Thank you again!

Safety, trust & environment

Whether boarding or providing in home services, I am careful to keep an active eye on any pets in my care and do take precautions such as using baby gates, separate rooms, or crates if need be. Entrances such as front/back doors are never left open, and I make sure to keep any food, medications, etc. put away out of reach. I only feed pets approved treats unless specified otherwise! I also keep a pet first aid kit in my home and car at all times just in case. As part of my safety plan, I do not board pets that display signs of overt aggression or low tolerance towards other animals as it is a physical and psychological risk for all pets in my care. If your pet/dog excessively barks/howls (i.e. not just to alert or when startled/excited, but constantly), or lacks social awareness around other pets (i.e. lunging at them, ignoring boundaries/behavioral cues) this is also not suitable behavior for boarding, especially when I have a pet myself. Even if said behavior is not apparent at a meet and greet, I ask that pet parents be forthcoming. On walks, I am careful to check equipment and make sure nothing is damaged or loose in order to prevent escapes/discomfort. If walking equipment is unfamiliar to me, I will ask questions about it (or use trusty Google if need be) and practice putting it on and taking it off a few times before using it on a walk. I will not take your dog (or any other pet that goes on walks) up close to other animals while we're out, just to avoid any potential problems. I do not take dogs in my care to dog parks due to the unpredictable nature of other owners and their pets. I carry waste bags with me, water/collapsible bowl if it's warm out, and my cell phone at all times. As mentioned above, things like prong collars are not acceptable walking equipment. If a dog pulls there are other walking tools that may be useful, such as a properly fitted harness, that I would be happy to use!

Information Andie L. would like to know about your pet

I think it is important to have respect and trust between human and animal, so want to be aware of any unique behavioral issues or personality quirks that might inform our interactions and how I care for them. Examples of good information would be: How do they like to be handled/not be handled (i.e. petting, cuddling, picking up)? Are they more of a floor sleeper/bed sleeper/etc? What toys do they enjoy playing with? Are they an avid/power chewer? What is their typical daily routine? How do you administer their medications, if they take any? Are they used to other people aside from you giving them medicine? Do certain noises, people, places, or anything else frighten or upset them? Have they ever bolted/tried to run away? How do they interact with other dogs/animals? Have they ever bitten or injured you or anyone else? How have you addressed it? Have they ever been attacked or had bad experiences with other dogs/animals? Do they deal with separation anxiety or become destructive/upset when left alone? Have they stayed with a sitter/had house visits before? Have they stayed at a boarding facility or pet hotel? What have their previous experiences with sitters or boarding facilities been like? Are they used to being in an apartment, house, etc.? Do they go on regular walks or are they used to/prefer a yard? What is their recall/receptiveness to directives like? (I could go on, but won't! Send me a message with any info you think is important or with any questions!)

A typical day

There are plenty of grassy areas for doggie relief outside of my apartment complex, and several nearby parks I enjoy visiting with Baby, including Griffith Park. I would love to take your dog out on a fun day trip to walk or hike if weather and their energy/ability/training level permits! Baby is quite the homebody herself when she isn't geared up for an adventure, so I am also just fine with staying in, playing with their favorite toys, snuggling, and going on walks through the neighborhood. I utilize a combination of mental and physical stimulation to keep pets feeling well adjusted and engaged. I will play 'hide and seek' or 'find the treat' games with your pets, as well as things like tug of war and fetch (unless of course they're a cat or other animal and then it would be cat wands and any other toys they enjoy galore.)

I work mostly freelance and am home often. I do occasionally have gigs such as performances or recording sessions that require me to be gone for a few hours at a time. While boarding I am rarely gone and if I do step out my partner, Antonio, is typically home and very capable of looking after them for a bit. In the event we both need to run an errand, etc., pets are never left for more than an hour or two at a time. We leave them uncrated in the living room (unless they have a crate and are comfortable in one) with fresh water available, some sort of ambient sound, and all other rooms closed off. :) *For house sitting, the majority of my time is spent at the pet parent's home. In general, I never leave for more than a few hours at a time (no more than 4-5) to check on things at my home, run errands, etc. Specific needs, expectations, or requests should and can be discussed! Please note that I cannot accommodate stays where I will be expected never to leave the residence, even for short periods of time.
