Licensed Veterinary Technician

Pet care experience

I am a certified veterinary technician with nearly three decades of pet-sitting experience under my belt. I have worked in veterinary medicine for 16 years and specifically emergency veterinary medicine for eleven years. I have extensive hands-on experience with anything from fractious felines to exotics (although dogs are and always will be my favorite). I have many years of experience with dog-walking and pet-sitting in clients' homes and am very comfortable medicating most animals -- anything from insulin to pills to topical formulas. Your pet's comfort and happiness while you are away are my absolute highest priority. My goal will always be to make sure they are well cared for in your absence. They deserve to be spoiled and you deserve to feel secure in leaving them behind.

Oh how I wish Amy still lived near me and could care for my dog, Luna! She just has a way with animals and her vet experience makes me feel confident that Luna is in the best possible hands. She obviously loves animals and also knows how to be firm when necessary. Luna just can't get enough of her!

I’m very thankful for the extraordinary care that Amy Smith provided for my dog Milo on several occasions. There are very few people that I could trust to handle my neurotic, fear-aggressive dog. Since Amy has worked with animals professionally for many years, some very scared and ill, she has both the skill set and natural intuition of how to work with all kinds of animals, with differing personalities and needs. Compared with other pet sitters, Amy was the one person who 100% understood my concerns about how to work with Milo. Since he was fear--aggressive with other dogs and cats, and was, in general, a highly anxious dog (due to early trauma), it was no easy task to take care of him, but Amy is a great listener and keyed in quickly to my dog’s triggers and also what motivated him. I felt completely confident in Amy’s ability to handle Milo, both with the compassion and the firmness he needed, and to effectively communicate with other dog owners, so as to avoid possible trouble. I was confident she could handle any situation that would arise, after watching how she interacted with and managed Milo. He responded beautifully to her and LOVED when Amy came to care for him! In summary, Amy is professional, consistent, compassionate, excellent with both animals and their humans, and has the medical skill set of being a vet tech to boot. Grab her before someone else snatches her up!

Words can’t express the peace of mind Amy provided in caring for our cats. Her background as a veterinary technician was invaluable given the health issues of our cats – one with cancer and two with diabetes. Beyond normal care (food, water, litter boxes, etc.) she administered medications (pills, liquids and injections) and watched for behavioral changes as an indication of changes in medical situation. She is honest, prompt, trustworthy and genuinely caring. She takes pride in ensuring the job is done right. Our only regret is we now live too far to continue working with Amy.
