Advocator of Animal Love/Kindness

Pet care experience

I’ve been around animals my entire life. My entire childhood I had a minimum of 5 dogs and 2 cats and multiple fish in my family home at any given time. We started Hobby Breeding Collies when I was 8 and I was the helper to raising the litters to the age of selling to new forever family homes. At age 11 we ended up with a collie that had diabetes. As my mother is deathly afraid of needles, I became the one to give him his morning and nightly insulin shots. This became useful later in life when I would house sit and pet sit for a neighbor that also had a diabetic dog and needed someone to look after her companions that could administer the shots twice daily. I almost went to vet school, but was turned in a different direction due to a bad car accident. However, I have worked in many vet hospitals and still carry with me a lot of my learnings. I’ve worked through the hospitals with exotic animals from Red Pandas, Tigers, Big Horn Sheep to Lemurs. I’ve worked in facilities doing genetics breeding and husbandry for Rats, Mice and Rhesus macaques (monkeys). I’ve lived on ranches, trained horses, doctored cattle, and was raised around race horses in my early childhood (even helping train them when I was in college). I have trained horses for various folks in the past as favors and have since been out of it, but have spent a lot of my life around horses. I myself have personally through the years owned out of all my dogs two that had many health issues and have had to learn a lot around their special needs and care. And now after most of my life having a fear of birds, my closest pets in my household to me are my 2 parakeets and my Jenday Conure bird who is a very needy baby and beyond attached to me. These add to my animal farm of 2 dogs and 2 fish as well.

Amy was great with my girl! Took such good care of her and I wasn’t worried at all while I was gone, knowing she was in Amy’s very capable hands! ?

Amy is wonderful with our 2 dogs! She communicates very well and is very considerate with our high anxiety dogs.

Amy is my daughter. She has been around animals her entire life even had a horse and been around cattle. Our home was filled with cats and dogs from the day she was born. She presently has 2 dogs and three birds herself. She was scared of birds and figured what better way to overcome that fear than to have them as pets, so she introduced birds into her life. They live in beautiful castle like cages having more than most humans do. Her dogs are so in love with her and she with them. They were trained with total love. They get immediate vet care when needed no matter the cost. There is a saying that insinuates the person who does not love dogs(animals) should not be trusted. I somewhat agree with that. What kind of heart and soul is in the person who doesn't know loving animals. This would never be Amy, but quite the opposite.

Safety, trust & environment

I can offer a gentle and calm presence for your critters for whatever it is you are needing. A daily check in, or caring for them in your home while you are away. I like to maintain the same routine you already have established with them so they feel even more at ease and comfort with my presence during your absence as to cause less anxiety or stress for them. I tend to make sure I have really good notes taken so I can follow them really well to make sure everything is covered exactly up to your standards of desire for your pets care.

Information Amy M. would like to know about your pet

I like to be aware of any behavioral problems, fears, allergies, sensitivities, medications, clothing fears (ie hats, hoodies, glasses, etc you'd be surprised!), environmental fears or stimulants, stressors, things that help calm or relieve stress for your critters, etc

A typical day

I like dogs to be able to be excercised physically and/or mentally. Whether it’s gentle ball rolling or hand chasing with elderly dogs, or field ball chuck it chasing with younger ones. I like to give dogs the experience that best keeps them on their healthy path forward.

My daily routine consists of waking the dogs first, feeding them and tending to them. Then uncovering the two bird cages, cleaning their water containers daily, replenishing their food and giving them their morning TLCs. Then I pull the fish food out of the freezer to set on the tank to thaw. Then I feed and wake my biggest - scariest animal of the house - my daughter! I try to get walks in with the dogs when I can, but during the school year, I work in the elementary school and my other half takes them on morning runs. So during the summer they get walked by me.
