Small Dog Shangri-La

Pet care experience

Our home is a safe haven for smaller dogs (up to 20 pounds), and are treated like royalty here. We understand the unique nature of their size and the need to be in an environment where they can relax and feel safe. We have a securely fenced yard and a clean home with no shortage of affection and play. Our boys (10 & 13 yrs) are eager and excellent caretakers and I work from home, so dogs are rarely left alone. Mimi (Lhasa/Shih Tzu) and Jupiter (Shih Tzu) will welcome your pooches with a nice mix of rest and play, and they share their space well. We know the needs of a long-haired dog! We are happy to brush your dog as needed to avoid mats, and we offer the option of a bath and blow-out before sending your dog home (for dogs who enjoy this type of service). We keep a flea-free home and wipe them down after a romp in the rain the best we can. I have lived with and cared for dogs the majority of my life. They are considered family in our home! We have taken in dogs while folks are on vacation many times and enjoy the energy they bring. We love all breeds, sizes and temperaments, but we like to keep the house safe and relaxing for Mimi and Jupiter - and for your pups too. You can rest assured your dogs will feel cared for and right at home in our Small Dog Shangri-La!

It was such a peace of mind to leave Oscar with Amy. You can tell she is definitely a dog person and is so caring for her own two shitzus. She definitely understands the nature of small dogs, including how to best assimilate dogs that may not be the most social (my Oscar) with her very friendly pups. I appreciated getting an update from Amy each day, and know Oscar was so well cared for, and played with a lot, which requires patience because he wants to play 24/7. Her sons were excellent with Oscar as well. Not to mention her back yard was a perfect and secure space for the dogs to play. I will definitely come back to Amy.

I was very glad to have entrusted Amy with my dog Gracie. She is a senior Italian Greyhound with plenty of her own quirks that need special attention. Amy was very accommodating of Gracie and helped her feel as comfortable as possible. We were able to meet up before hand and have our dogs meet each other which made the actual stay less stressful for her. Amy provided daily updates for Gracie that helped me know she was in good hands. Amy's house is perfect for little dogs and I would certainly use her again! Thanks!

I felt completely at ease leaving Puma with Amy. This is really saying something, because just over a week before, Puma had had a bad run in with a cat which required a visit to the emergency vet --and stitches. But from the moment I brought Puma over for our "meet and greet," I knew Amy would take great care of him and he would feel right at home. Puma felt so relaxed and safe at Amy's, that he started sunbathing in the yard just a few minutes after we arrived. Puma became friends with her two sweet dogs pretty much immediately. It was so nice to leave for my trip and feel at ease leaving Puma in someone else's care. Puma came home tired (from playing with her dogs, no doubt!) and happy. I couldn't be happier with how Puma's stay went, and I will definitely be leaving entrusting Amy and her family with him in the future. I highly, highly recommend Amy's pet care services!

Amy was great! The dogs had a lot of fun and got a lot of exercise playing in the backyard and on long walks! We received regular pictures and updates so it made being away from our buddies a little easier! Amy was very prompt in her response time and I felt very comfortable leaving my pets with her! We will be back when we go on our next vacation!

We prefer small dogs (up to 20 lbs) who are playful and gentle natured, like Mimi and Jupiter. To keep our family safe, we are not able to host aggressive dogs. Non shedding dogs are preferred but ones who shed lightly are also welcome. In order to keep our home flea-free, we ask you treat your dogs before bringing them over. We only take one clients' dog(s) at a time and would like to meet first to be sure they will all get along. Thank you!

A typical day

The Kenton neighborhood is wonderful for walks; nearby Kenton Park is also a hot spot for local pooches. We snuggle and play and nap with our dogs (and repeat). We understand the care required for long haired dogs and will brush them daily; we even offer the option of a bath and light grooming before returning your love to you. Mimi (Shih Tzu/Lhasa) and Jupiter (Shih Tzu) are non-aggressive, loving dogs and enjoy playing with others. Our backyard is a great size for running around, and there are always plenty of toys to share!
