Pet care experience
Hi there! My husband, Jake, and I are excited to meet you and your pet! I started fostering dogs my senior year in college (2014) and ended up adopting a 5 year old beagle named Fred after a major foster fail. Fred was heart worm positive and was undergoing treatment when I first started fostering him. He was also prone to Lyme and Ehrlichia flares and had extensive trauma (including a bullet fragment in his spine) that made him prone to severe separation anxiety. It was basically the ultimate crash course in taking care of a chronically ill animal. After meeting Jake in our post-grad life, we decided to foster puppies and helped to unite 7 pups with their forever families. After Fred passed away we adopted another rescue hound, Chevy, who we renamed Finn and who had his own list of problems: reactivity, prey driven, escape artist. But adoption for us has always meant forever. We have worked with incredible trainers who have taught us how to adjust our own behavior and mindset in order to provide Finn with the most fulfilling life possible. We are excited to use what knowledge we have learned to help care for your pets! A little about us and our home: I currently work as an oncology RN at Stanford Hospital and Jake works at Baylands Golf Course. We work separate shifts, him days, myself nights, so likely there is always someone around to help you. While we are open to bringing your dog to our home for play, it’s important for you to know that your dog will never interact with our dog. In addition, for safety reasons we will not bring your dog to a dog park or walk them off-leash. Our home has a fenced front and back yard and is in close proximity to Baylands Nature Preserve. One of our closest friends is a Veterinarian and if you need or have any question/advice regarding your animal we are more than happy to reach out to her.

Safety, trust & environment
Every pet is different and we will figure out a combination of play, rest, and structured walk that works best for each animal! Every pet’s experience will be different based on owner preference.
Information Amy & Jake S. would like to know about your pet
Before we care for a dog, we need to know if the dog is reactive and since most dogs are, we need to know what they are reactive to. We also would like to know anything special regarding the dog's care (ie isn't house broken, is destructive when left alone, gets into the trash, crate trained or not, does well in the car),
A typical day
We personally love unstructured 1:1 play. We think this builds a dogs trust and esteem the most. For us personally, our dog hates fetch but loves frisbee so we plan play around the activities he loves.

Availability
When I work nights I typically work 2-3 12h nights in a row, however, I do not have a set schedule. As a result, I am unavailable during or between those working hours and likely only know my schedule 1-4 weeks in advance. Jake also does not have a set schedule but typically works Thursday-Sunday morning
