"They're good dogs, Brent."

Pet care experience

Hi! My name is Amy. I grew up in a family where the pets always outnumbered the people and it.was.AWESOME. I am currently going back to school as part of an effort to change my field of work. School is entirely online, which means I make my own daily schedule and am relatively flexible. I have experience with a wide variety of dog breeds and am especially comfortable with herding/working breeds (the current dog in my life is an Australian Cattle Dog). I have worked as a sled dog handler/trainer/caretaker in AK and Canada, a puppy trainer in the D.C. area, and a dog sitter in various states. I believe that dogs are happiest when they have time to be active and engaged, so I strive to give your dog an experience that helps fulfill their needs. Of course, rest and cuddles are important, too. I care deeply about the experience your dog has with me and want it to be positive and fun. I look forward to meeting your dog and you, learning more about both of your needs and wants, and making their day extra special (and yours less stressful)!

Amy is fantastic. She was receptive to the needs of our dogs, and within just a couple of visits our shy boy Dennison was rolling on to his back to get his belly rubbed. I feel completely confident trusting our dogs to her.

I have known Amy for more than a dozen years and I can honestly say that she is the most caring and conscientious dog sitter I know; with the one exception of her grandparents who lived next door to me (I mean, come on, who's better than grandpa who never leaves home without a pocket full of dog treats?). I can honestly say that when Amy dog sits my dog "Ned", I can leave for vacation and never look back. I know he is being spoiled rotten and in good hands. When I first adopted Ned, he had very few, if any, manners and was quite a handful despite many dog obedience classes. He was no match for Amy. I came home after a weeks vacation to such a good boy! She has a wonderful way with animals, Ned absolutely loves her, and I think she's pretty special too!

Amy is our go-to, #1 dog sitter! She is extremely responsible and knowledgable about caring for dogs. Amy worked extensively with our large Alaskan Malamute, helping to shape him into a well-trained lovebug after we adopted him from a shelter. Our dog started with many poor behavioral habits and Amy lovingly helped train him while she was dog sitting, always going above and beyond to ensure his needs were met, his heart was happy, and his walks were long. Amy is a great communicator and always made sure we were kept in the loop with photos, house updates, and dog updates. She comes with our highest recommendation!

Information Amy F. would like to know about your pet

Before spending time with your dog, I want to know if he/she has any medical issues/concerns I need to be aware of and/or if they are on any medications. I also appreciate a heads up on any behavioral issues or special needs (does your dog eat things he/she should not? extra bathroom breaks needed?); the more I know, the better I can keep a thoughtful eye on your dog, which ensures the safety, comfort, and happiness of all involved.

A typical day

The activities will depend on what you and your dog are comfortable with, but there are so many possibilities! Walks in the neighborhood or local parks, agility and confidence building at a dog park, fetch, tug, etc. are all options. I'm also open to discussing certain behavioral or training issues you might like to address.
