Dog foster starting dog business

Pet care experience

Hi! My name is Amie and I volunteer with a rescue called Operation Freedom Ride. My whole life, I have been surrounded by animals and learning how to train my dogs to be the best they can be. After joining the OFR team, I started fostering for them. I’ve worked with little dogs (smallest was 8 lbs) and big dogs (biggest so far was 80 lbs) and a variety of breeds. My job as a foster is to get them ready for their forever homes. This includes crate training, potty training, leash training and basic training such as sit, down, stay, come, etc. I have yet to work with a dog that I couldn’t handle. OFR prepared me in the best way possible to get myself ready to take care of other people’s pets. I always ask clients what training they are currently doing and what their routine is for walking and boarding to keep their dog’s routine consistent. I also don’t want to have your dog regress by not doing the same things as you do with your dog(s). I also offer sending dog walking and boarding updates to my clients. I do not mind sending pictures of us on each walk or check in on your boarded dog. I’m excited to start this new journey and I hope you choose me to work with your best friend.

I have just adopted a rescue dog that needs to learn socialization skills with other dogs. Amie reached out to me of her own accord offering her help along with her dog Gus who has worked with rescues before. She has knowledge of animal behavior from her experience with fostering and volunteering for a rescue organization. Seeing her with my Hank and the help she has given us and continues to do I would have no hesitation having Hank in her hands. I have complete confidence in Amie with the care of my Hank and that approval doesn't come easy from me with my dog.

Amie is truly gifted with animals! She is not deterred by behaviors and is very determined to persevere in training dogs! We hired Amie to help train our reactive rescue dog that had a history of being attacked by 2 dogs. Amie spent 3+ hours on the first day just walking up and down the street to help Penny (our dog) learn not to react at the sight of other dogs. Even after 15 failed attempts, Amie's spirit/energy/drive were all still high! She does not give up and absolutely knows how to handle dogs with many different temperaments! Amie's passion for dogs is also evident in her rescue/fostering efforts with Operation Freedom Ride! She has devoted her personal time to drive down and rescue dogs and cats from high kill shelters! You truly cannot find a better sitter/walker/animal caregiver here in Rochester! We have, and will continue, to hire Amie again and again!

My parents have two cats and a dog. Amie had come over and spent time watching all three animals. While she was over, they had mentioned that they wished they could cut their nails themselves but the animals are hard to work with (old cat, grumpy Siamese cat, and a nervous dog). Amie stepped up for the challenge and offered to take care of it for them. Within about 15 minutes she had clipped the nails on both cats and the front paws of the dog. My parents were so happy since even the vet won't clip the Siamese cats nails. She also made sure to spend extra time playing fetch with the dog after to help calm his nerves after the nail cutting session. I have also had Amie's help with my two cats (I don't have dogs), and she has always been helpful and kind in caring for them. She is my go-to person for anything I need when it comes to animal care. I would happily trust her with my pets, or my parents pets, any day for any reason.

I have worked with Amie for a while now through Operation Freedom Ride, a Rochester based animal rescue. Amie is one of my absolute favorite fosters to work with. She is amazing with the dogs and cats that have come through her home. She caters their every need and makes sure they have a strong foundation of training for when they're ready to go into their forever homes. Amie is always questioning, in a good way. She wants to make sure she can go above and beyond so she makes sure every base is hit when caring for an animal. I would trust Amie with my dogs. She is an amazing handler and animal lover.
