Fear Free Certified Retired VetTech

Pet care experience

I'm a farmer's daughter and was raised by animals. My grandfather trained wild animals (the newspaper clipping) and fostered that passion in me. Being “still,” with them and understanding how a relaxed, healthy animal perceives and interacts with the world versus a stressed animal. I was formerly an emergency room veterinary technician. As much as I love it, I'm no longer physically able to be a vet tech. As you can see from the pictures, my experience isn’t isolated to dogs and cats. I’m experienced with many species. Caring for them brings me joy and satisfaction. The possibilities are as numerous as the individuals. I travel with a big Sitter Bag full of puzzles, snuffle and licky mats, a potpourri of balls, frisbees and leashes for the pups. For kitties, I have a tube full of wands, carry nip, pompoms, laser lights, and I'm not afraid to offer puzzles and mats. Kitties like them, too. I travel with pheromones and pet relax playlists. My goal is to take care of them physically, emotionally and psychologically. I'm experienced in grooming, handling, husbandry, training, and psychology. I have a bachelors degree in anthropology, which helps me study human behavior and animals. Feral cats, street dogs in Mexico, wild horses... Además, hablo español por si les ofrece. I've done summits with Drs Julie Lee, Judy Morgan, Edward Baissingthwaite and others regarding wellness and holistic care. I'm committed to learning from experts the best ways to help them live their longest, best lives. I know intimately the bond between pets and family, pets as family, and your family will be loved and cared for when you can't be home yourself! I am a certified Fear Free Sitter and a member of PUPS (Professional United Pet Sitters.) I’m huge on the basics: good nutrition, tons of fresh water, exercise, environmental and mental stimulation, good hygiene and husbandry, regular healthcare, physical and spiritual closeness. I try to stay close to their normal routine. I'm a co-sleeper and will want the opportunity to sleep close to them on overnights if that's their preference.

Amelia came through in a pinch, got on our dogs’ energy level and gave our nervous, reactive one a chance to warm up without pushing him. Excellent communication. During the meet and greet she asked good questions and had good instincts on what to do to help our dogs and cat get comfortable with her. It was clear they were in good hands with Amelia. Thank you!

Fantastic sitter. Went above and beyond with our two dogs. One was recovering from surgery and one is very elderly and needs a lot of care. Kept us updated and the dogs love her. Took great care of the house as well.

Amelia was wonderful with our pup!!! She was caring, responsive, and clearly has a lot of experience with animals. She gave our pup tons of love and was incredibly patient with her. Best pet sitting experience we’ve ever had, and we will definitely be glad to work with her again!

Amelia was absolutely wonderful with my very timid and anxious yorkie. She was totally attuned to his needs and sent communication updates that were much appreciated. She provided him delicious treats and he was calm and relaxed when I returned home from a night away.

Their care is determined on an individual basis as I care for a variety of species and each is their own person. I have a recently adopted pup who has suffered some dog napping trauma. ***I'm currently only sitting for social pets who enjoy company until my guy feels grounded in his new home and community and is comfortable going to his own overnights. This will involve at least one in-person meet and greet*** In my home, I have 2 water fountains for fresh filtered water that is exciting to drink. I cook for them and we eat communally. If they’re adventurous, we adventure! If they’re home bodies, we adventure at home with things like puzzle feeders, snuffle mats, wand and laser lights, training, seeking games, natural chews and lots of snuggles if they’re snugglers.

Information Amelia G. would like to know about your pet

I’m “safety first,” and keeping them safe is my priority. The basics: age, health history, medication, diet and allergy, activity level, their regular vet and emergency vet preference. Are they social? Favorite activities? Language? Comforts? Quirks? Favorite places?

A typical day

I will spend time with you to learn your requests and then time with your pet to learn what they need. I’m a believer in “a tired dog is a good dog." Physical and mental exercise are equally important. Your dog may be a walker, a playground fan, love rides, or just shorter walks and inside play. Everyone is individual. I strive to meet them where they're at.

I work from home so I’m with them 24/7 as needed. When we're separated from our family, even confident, resilient pets can experience some stress. I try to balance that out for them between love and fun.
