Happy Hound Acres: Boarding & Walks
Pet care experience
YOUR DOG MUST BE CURRENT ON VACCINES BEFORE HIS/HER STAY WITH US. A PRIOR MEET AND GREET IS REQUIRED BEFORE THEIR FIRST STAY WITH US CAN BE BOOKED. Please send a photocopy of your dog's most recent vaccination record along with your initial reservation request. I specialize in boarding sighthounds, shy dogs, senior dogs; and special needs dogs including medical. I've been dogsitting for over 17 years. I grew up in a rural town where ours was a home for wayward strays & rescue animals, cats & dogs of all breeds. I grew up with a St. Bernard, Poodles, Shih Tzu, Schnauzer, Basset Hounds, Irish Setter, Labrador Retrievers, German Shepherds, a Keeshond & many mixed breeds. I have been involved in greyhound rescue since 2001, adopting six so far & fostering more than 30 dogs over the years; my ex-fiancé & I trained & rescued Belgian Malinois, some of which participated in Mondio Ring. A student of psychology, I have studied animal behavior & taken professional training courses including pet CPR & Cesar Millan's program. I do this because I enjoy the company of canines; as a work from home legal analyst & animal rights activist, my favorite co-workers are my greyhounds & your visiting dogs!

Information Amanda T. would like to know about your pet
For safety of all, I need to know when your dog was last vaccinated, as well as dates of most recent administration of deworming, flea & tick prevention & treatment of any contagious parasites or diseases including but not limited to intestinal parasites, mites, mange, canine influenza, etc. Please do NOT book a stay for or bring me a dog who has a contagious infection. I am comfortable working with dogs with behavioral issues as long as my dogs are not put at risk. I am confident & experienced with Greyhounds, Wolfhounds, Poodles and Doodles, Viszlas, Bloodhounds, Dobermans, Shepherds, Mastiffs, Danes & the like. I am a calm, assertive, clear & direct pack leader. Our preferred guests are seniors, sighthounds & hounds Rescues are my favorite! As mentioned, we need to meet & greet at our home at least one day prior to the first day of your dog's stay to ensure that proper introductions are complete, which will include a brief neighborhood walk on-leash, observation & discussion of any behavioral concerns, your pet's routine, etc. Please, no puppies or extra-barky dogs: I work from home & need to be on the phone at times in my home office. No indiscriminate chewers due to antique furnishings. If your dog tends to "mark territory" please provide him with a belly band/diaper during his stay with us. Leash-pullers will need to wear some sort of pull-reducing devices, typically a halti-collar, gentle-leader, prong collar, or easy-walk harness, depending on the most appropriate solution for your dog's needs. If your dog is crated at home, please bring his/her crate--I do not provide these items, & have found over the years that it is most helpful for a dog visiting a new environment (especially for the first time) to be familiar with his/her belongings/surroundings; separation anxiety is often exacerbated with new scents, unfamiliar things/places. Please ensure that your dog's profile is complete with information regarding his or her vaccination record, any health/medical conditions, any medication with dosage instructions, feeding instructions, veterinary clinic contact info, favorite toys/bones, behavioral issues to monitor, etc.
A typical day
Our home & lifestyle are mellow & fairly quiet in an hobby farm environment. We typically take walks in the mornings when it's cooler in summers, midday/afternoon in winter, weather permitting. Please include doggie coats & boots or mushers balm for inclement weather if your dog has them. Please bring your dogs bowls, bed, favorite toys, treats, crate & anything that will make him/her feel at home. Musher's balm recommended to protect paws from hot pavement & ice melt/salt; CBD oil strongly recommended for anxious/nervous/arthritic dogs. I offer additional services, including baths, nail trims, & basic grooming for a fee. Please book these needs before or during your dog's stay with us; I am happy to offer these services a la carte as well. *Please note: For billing purposes, boarding stays are for a 24 hour or less period. Doggie Daycare is from morning to evening with pickup the same day, with no overnight stay. Stays that surpass the 24-hour dog boarding stay timeframe will be billed/calculated as a boarding stay plus an additional doggie-daycare stay for the additional time. Thank you! Looking forward to showing your furry family members some love! :-)

Availability
My dogs are my life, and so are my horses, parrots, and chickens. We live on a small hobby farm and love it! My dogs have 24-7 access to a fully fenced backyard via a dog door. Dogs are allowed in every room and on furniture. Also have a grooming table and proper grooming equipment for doggie spa appointments. Suffice it to say, I’m a well-trained human!
