An animals best interest at heart.
Pet care experience
As a volunteer dog handler with a local rescue group for the last 4 years, I have worked hundreds of hours with dogs of all personalities and sizes --big and small, fearful and exuberant; blind, deaf, and those with special medical needs. In animal rescue, I have been a team lead for the dog foster program, and a member of both the dog behavioral assessment and the playgroup teams. I have had formal, certified training from the nationally recognized organization "Dogs Playing For Life,” and I have successfully completed a basic manners training class with Pat Miller at Peaceable Paws, I believe in the power of positive reinforcement! My dog is considered a family member, and therefor treated with respect and love. I began my own foster journey 18 years ago, and adopted 2 dogs during my adulthood. I have fostered over 50 dogs, ranging from puppy litters at weeks old to seniors, and have rehabbed foster dogs through surgical recovery.
About Amanda T.
Communication
Skills
Safety, trust & environment
I respect the different needs of dogs and I will honor any specific handling preferences owners may have, and we can discuss any training or behavioral needs.
Information Amanda T. would like to know about your pet
behavior with leash, strangers, other animals, kids, allergies (for treats), what food motivates, any cues used before, during and after walks, crating or free roam, etc
A typical day
Every dog is different, so I alter the walks for the need of the animal. Some dogs like to meander and sniff, some need as much distance as time allows, most need physical and mental enrichment (which includes additional behavioral work), etc
Services
Amanda can watch in your home
Availability
I currently work part-time, which leaves me with free time to devote to animals while getting some exercise! My schedule is often flexible, allowing me to work within your and your dogs needs.
