Pet care experience

I have 15 years experience caring for dogs of every size and age. Neighbors, friends and family have relied on me to walk, feed, and bathe their pets. My experience started at age 10 with Booger, a neighbor's Pug I walked every day. From what I can recall, Booger was energetic and fun-loving. Oftentimes, I played with him after our walks; he loved squeaky toys. During this time, I also watched my neighbors' Labrador Retriever, Sophie, for approximately an hour once a week; Sophie was a puppy at the time, and in training to become a service dog. Shortly after I started walking Booger, my family brought home a Havanese puppy, Buddy. For 14.5 years, I walked, bathed, and fed Buddy. Early on, Buddy loved to go on walks; his favorite part about walking was smelling every mailbox, tree, or fire hydrant we passed. As he got older, walking became more difficult for him and it was important that I be very patient. Caring for an elderly dog requires a much different skillset than that of a puppy; there's more cuddles, naps, and indoor playtime involved. During the time my family had Buddy, I helped care for two German Shepherds, Max and Ruby, for approximately 6 years. Max and Ruby were extremely reactive to both dogs and humans, so training was very important. When walking, I taught Ruby to sit whenever another person or dog passed by, which helped to ease her anxiety. Behavior aside, Max and Ruby had very thick coats and shedding was inevitable, so grooming was part of their weekly (sometimes daily) routine; baths and lots of brushing was required. In February 2021, I brought home a Golden Retriever puppy, Basil. Basil is the goofiest, most lovable troublemaker I've ever encountered. I've taught him basic commands such as sit, stay, and lay down. I administer all of his medication, including Heartgard, flea & tick, and occasionally ear drops. Shortly after bringing home Basil, I helped care for an Australian Shepherd, Atreus. Atreus is an extremely energetic dog with a dominant personality. I learned early-on that Atreus cannot be off-leash and he needs toys that will exercise his brain.

Amanda is a wonderful walker! She is kind and caring towards our eight-month-old puppy and has excellent communication skills. I feel very comfortable knowing how well cared for my puppy is and would highly recommend her.

Amanda has taken care of our little Buddy for many years. She is good with him, taking him for walks and giving him much needed attention. Buddy is a smaller breed dog, however I have seen her with larger breed dogs also. I would highly recommend her to anyone. She is responsible and trustworthy and Buddy loves her!

Safety, trust & environment

I live in a small one-bedroom apartment, which in not ideal for caring for pets. However, if absolutely needed, my apartment complex has a dog park directly behind my building. Also, Basil is very friendly and loves making new friends; he's very adaptable to new environments as well.

Information Amanda R. would like to know about your pet

Please let me know if your dog has any special needs or behaviors that should be accounted for. It is also important for me to know about any medications I must administer, feeding schedules (i.e., how much food to give, & what time), and daily routines (e.g., walk/play times, etc.).

A typical day

Basil and I love going for walks at Great Bear during the Spring, Summer, and Fall months. During the winter, we have enjoyed using my apartment's fenced-in dog park, where we play fetch. When indoors, fetch and tug-of-war are very fun activities!
