Active, chatty and outdoorsy animal lady!

Pet care experience

Hi Pet lovers! I started my business with Rover and am now LendaPaw Pet Services - very happy to meet new clients and am forever grateful to Rover for giving me that boost! My areas are: Letchworth, Baldock, Hitchin, Biggleswade, and all of the villages in between. Also up the A1 towards Sandy, St Neots and Huntingdon. I've had a quieter doggy schedule over the past couple of years thanks to lockdown and have been doing some creative and horticultural things (I'm a bit of a multiple business person but dogs are my true love, and those things are flexible around the dog schedule which works well!) It's all about animals and nature in every aspect of my life, plants need love too! I am getting much busier now with dogs though so do get planning for your holidays😁 For now I am primarily a pet sitter which means at your home, but I am open to other things, I just prefer that it is at least a couple of hours as I'm absolutely no good at juggling lots of hour long visits in a day and honestly I prefer to really engage with the dogs and get to know them properly. It is also difficult when I am pet sitting slightly out of my area, to reliably keep a dog walking schedule as well, but one offs and ad hoc socialising trips are all very doable (most of my customers would say I do sociable doggy adventures pretty well!). I live in Langford, Beds (unless staying at client's houses). I have stopped offering boarding for now as I needed to renew my council licence which is very expensive! Plus my Collie Mikey is 12 now and likes his peace and quiet. I am very happy to stay at other people's houses as I am easy going and I like the variety, and if your dog likes to socialise then I'll always make the effort to introduce them to some nice friends. Don't worry, Mikey stays at home with my parents so he's not too lonely! He comes out on walkies sometimes though - He loves to round up the youngsters and show them how to be a good sensible doggo, and of course I miss him if I'm away a lot so it's nice for me to visit to walk my own dog if I've got suitable chums for him haha! I take a positive behavioural and social learning approach to dog walking and training, and I believe that dogs need to be with their own species during their developmental stages to become well rounded adults - Just like we do. Even one day a week getting out and meeting others makes all the difference, and I am always keen to help shape them into good citizens, ironing out problems gradually and with love and care. No quick fixes here, but I am pretty well educated on animals and don't expect any creature to be perfect from day one! I use positive reinforcement and do not underestimate the power of telling a dog they are very good for just sitting still doing nothing! I keep any walk groups small and they all have my attention throughout the day. Each one is thrilled to see me and that fills my heart with pure joy! I actively manage their behaviour and any dog that is being too rough or boisterous is redirected to something more constructive, and any dog that is feeling shy or overwhelmed is given quieter breaks if they need to get used to things. I am conscious of young or old joints so I keep an eye on them if they might get carried away. I have most of a degree in Zoology plus my own active interest in everything animal related, from their behaviour to their anatomy and veterinary/physio treatments. I have horses who are also very educational and I am knowledgeable on vet stuff. I have looked after lots of wiggly, toothy, hyper puppies! hope to meet many more, I absolutely cannot stop photographing them which is reassuring if you like loads of updates - or even if you don't, I'll send pics anyway just so that you know what your dog has been up to! If I am doing a group walk, I like to rotate around favourite countryside walks every time (I don't really do repetitive pavement walks) off lead if they can, but accommodating of one or two on lead if needed. This is likely to get them to the stage of going off lead in my experience, as they form a pack and will follow what others do. I take immense pride in developing top recall! I am also happy to take your dog to a dog park or secure area for recall training, but I can usually manage them on a long line with a couple of other dogs off lead, so they get to join in a little bit. My walks are often around water and swimming is very much encouraged but at their own pace. It's SO good for them physically and makes for sane, fit and healthy dogs at any age. Lots of the dogs prefer to stay at the edge or paddle selectively in the right conditions, and that's fine too as there will always be plenty of land based fun, and I certainly don't pressure them into getting wet if it's not their thing. With younger hyper dogs, I encourage calm down time after a walk, as it's important for them to understand that it's not all about high energy madness! Also it does become exhausting if they think I am to be played with non stop for a whole week, so I teach them to compromise a little, usually for the really good treats! When pet sitting, I am happy to try and fit in with your routine as best I can. I have done both boarding and pet sitting and they do tend to be much more settled at home until they know me well. I am very respectful of your home and do my best to wipe up paw prints and fluff, or anything your dog does to make a mess while I'm there! If you have particular house rules do make them clear as your dog might pretend they had no idea 😁 Please try not to worry about having a stranger in your home, it's an understandable concern but you will probably feel more at ease once you get to know me. I am non judgemental and friendly, my life is all about animals and I love people too, so I'm happy to accommodate any needs or concerns you may have. I have stayed in mid-renovation projects as well as beautiful pristine homes and I am happy with them both. I'll always do a meet and greet before any job, so feel free to contact me and I'll try to visit you on my rounds. If you have a pet sitting booking far in the future, I will also visit nearer the time so that your pets know who I am! I do not charge for these services, but you are welcome to book further walks or a trial night if you are worried or have nervous pets. I have found that nervous animals do relax with me more quickly than you'd think, but I think it is very beneficial for them to understand that when I visit I am going to leave again, and they will get their people back afterwards! One last thing, if you have cameras in your home please mention it at some point in our planning or meet and greet, I always forget to ask and it's increasingly common!

Amanda was excellent. This was the first time we had used a dig sitter and she was excellent. The dogs were well looked after and we achieved what we wanted with Amanda's help. We will certainly use her again.

Amanda was lovely with our boys as always - they get lots of long walks and snuggles, just what they enjoy best! They always hate to say goodbye to her 💖

Amanda and her family took our noisy little sausage dogs in their stride, and they clearly had a wonderful time with her. We are most grateful, and would always be happy to entrust them to her care.

Safety, trust & environment

The dogs come first always, their safety and happiness is key. I do try to keep things clean when it comes to paw prints and fur, and I am very vigilant about doors and potential escapes etc. I can be trusted absolutely and I am professional in that I do not pry into my customers lives or talk about them outside of the normal happy dog stuff. I share pictures with you directly and I do post pics on social media but I am pretty sensible, it's mostly just fun dog walks or close ups of cute dogs. I really value being trusted with your pets and homes, so you can always tell me if you don't like social media pics or you have particular worries!

Information Amanda R. would like to know about your pet

Please let me know of any habits or behavioural quirks, e.g reactive with other dogs, recall issues around small furries, counter-surfing, plant-eating, poop-eating, destructive behaviours at home, excessive barking, humping other dogs, car sickness, particular sensitivity to noise/cold/rain, resource/food/toy guarding. It doesn't mean I'll reject them, it just helps me to understand your dog better and make sure that every dog has a good day. I am comfortable with big dogs, in fact I love them, but my collie is not so keen on big young bouncy dogs so he steers clear usually! I do pop out sometimes so we will discuss what to do in that case. I can do shorter sits where I don't leave, but it is difficult to stay 24/7 for longer periods. I can probably have your dog with me the majority of the time though, if they can cope with that!

A typical day

I have a long list of favourite countryside places, so it feels like I never do the same walk more than once. I do more pet sitting now so focusing on fewer dogs for a longer period of time, but I am wiling to accommodate things like puppy visits if they are not ready for groups yet. I also do 'at home daycare' if I am free! I will often have things I need to tend to (primarily checking on my horticulture stuff and watering etc!) and I like to take dogs with me if possible, it's a nice way for them to learn about spending relaxed time outdoors, but not a necessity if the dog wouldn't like it or weather is unsuitable etc.
