I love all animals, especially dogs and cats. I can't remember a time when I didn't have a pet (always rescues). As a kid, at my mom's house, we'd had 7 different cats by the time I moved out. They were all rescues: some from shelters, but also some kittens abandoned by the strays. I had to help with the feeding, bathing, medicating, and care of kittens whose eyes weren't even open yet. I helped with the older cats as well, of course, including when the oldest had to get insulin shots every day. (I was not the one administering the shot because I was too young at the time, but I helped calm and hold the cat still.) I currently have two medium-to-large dogs. Kachina is about 10 years old, approximately 70lbs, and a chow/terrier/not-sure-what-else mutt. She has seizures which I have to hold her during and have had to administer both liquid and pill forms of oral medication. Her little brother named Nuku is almost 7 years old, officially 107 lbs of muscle, and an American bulldog/boxer mix. I have also had to administer oral pill form medication to him when he got an infection, as well as administer medication to and wrap the infected paw. When we first moved here, for the first three months, we were living with three other dogs as well. We managed to get them all acclimated to one another, despite how skittish our friends' dogs were (from being abused by previous owners). Although I don't have any paid experience with animals, I have plenty of personal experience with just about every aspect of caring for both cats and dogs.
