Pet care experience
I work as a veterinary technician and I’m becoming a pet sitter to expand my career in animal services -- I want every aspect of my life to include animals because they bring me so much joy! I love all animals, but I especially love dogs and cats because of their loyalty and companionship and I enjoy interacting with different dogs and cats because they each have a unique personality. My first memory of meeting a dog was bringing out first puppy, Swiper, home when I was a child. I was always involved in his care and caring for Swiper was the first push into my animal-based career! I’ve been trained in Veterinary Sciences and Medicine, I have a lot to offer when it comes to specialized care. I am able to medicate, monitor and provide relief care for pups in need. I have assisted in rehabilitation for orthopedic surgery as well as behavioral management. I am trained in emergency procedures, such as CPR (for animals and humans) and I am also an active Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) member. While I work part-time, it doesn’t impede my ability to cater to your pet and your schedule. I am flexible when it comes to scheduling and I also am open to early morning/late-night visits. I am concise, confident and attentive to details. Being trained in the veterinary field helps me create a bond with pet owners and I can ensure you that your pet is in the best hands. I also am able to recognize medical problems and anomalies and address them in a professional manner. I’ve always worked with animals. My first job was in a pet store, which branched out into professional dog sitting/walking. I also worked as a kennel technician, in veterinary reception and now I’m a practicing veterinary technician and working on getting my veterinary technician (LVT) license. I’ve owned a multitude of pets my whole life and I currently have two cats and a Betta. I have a family dog back at home in Chicago! I have volunteered my time with two separate rescue organizations and coordinated adoptions for dogs and cats. Not only is my home spacious, but it is dog proofed! It is a clean, quiet, stress-free environment built around my dog’s comfort and pleasures. My neighborhood is dog-friendly and I’m only short drive away from one of the longest walking paths in Illinois. I also am surrounded by parks and there are a lot of public and pet-friendly recreational areas nearby. If you’re pup stays with me, I use treats and positive reinforcement to build a bond with your pet. I also like to engage them physically as well as mentally, so you can be assured there will be lots of walks as well as playtime and belly rubs! I also provide plenty of check-ins and updates while you’re away so that you know your dog is being well cared for.
Reviews
Alyssa is great! She’s always flexible with our ever-changing schedule, and I know she takes excellent care of our babies when we aren’t there. As a vet student, I’m pretty picky about who watches my babies, but she’s one of the few people I trust to care for my animals!
Alyssa did an awesome job with out pets!
So pleased! She took care of our fur babies like they were her own.
Alyssa was fantastic with our two babies. One elderly dog had health issues while she was staying with her and she was able to handle them and keep us updated on condition. We would definitely recommend Alyssa.

Information Alyssa D. would like to know about your pet
I like to get a detailed medical history of your pup to ensure they are receiving care that is catered to their needs. I am a veterinary technician, so I am able to offer specialized care, including administering medications, monitoring a pet’s health or providing any other care they may need. I’m trained in CPR as well. I use treats and positive reinforcement to create a bond with pups and it’s helpful to know what your dog responds to best. I also like to know what their daily routine is like and how much exercise they need.
A typical day
There are so many places near my home to explore, your pup will never be bored! I tend to let dogs lead when we’re walking, (as long as it keeps us both safe), and I love walking along the Prairie Path and if your pup would rather take a more solitary stroll, we can take a jaunt around the neighborhood. As long as your pet is happy and healthy, I am open to taking them anywhere. Of course, we’ll also carve out plenty of time for playing as well as relaxing -- and getting plenty of belly rubs!
