Happy Paws —- Happy Dogs

Pet care experience

The purpose of my becoming a dog sitter is fairly recent. My son is playing in a Little League tournament in Cooperstown and we had reserved a beautiful home BEFORE adopting our dog, Happy. Shortly after Happy arrived from South Korea, I reread our rental contract ...and my stomach literally dropped as the house does not allow pets - which was reconfirmed after speaking to the owners. Totally devastated, we started looking at options and decided on boarding him at a beautiful pet resort. I walked away thinking it was the best option and that Happy would love being there with all the activities, walks, play time, and even a pool... but there was one thing I could not shake. I saw Happy staying in the kennel and I questioned if this was truly the best option for my dog - considering we just rescued him. Happy was rescued from South Korea; and if I was asking myself this question, then boarding him wasn’t NOT the best option. Happy was relinquished to a pound because his owner didn’t like his excessive shedding and taking him and his mom on walks. He had been in that pound for a while (from what it seems) and it is evident that he had some form of abuse. As this will be his first time away from us for an extensive amount of time, it is really important to our family that Happy is happy and that the environment is safe, warm, positive, and loving. I wanted to have Happy stay at a place where it felt like home... where he would be treated as a family member who is loved unconditionally and attended to without being dog number 5 out of 15. While the resort is beautiful and the staff do an incredible job- nothing beats home. My search for this type of “home” is what led me to be a sitter. Let our home be the “home” for your fur baby. I want to provide your baby the same experience I want my Happy to have...and even if it’s not your home (physically) we can offer all the comforts of home. We as pet owners and lovers know how hard it is to leave your fur baby behind- and we all want the best for our fur babies... Let us help ease the stress of your travels knowing that your fur baby’s paws are in good hands!!!

Allison watched our precious pup for a week while we traveled for vacation. It was our first time leaving him and we were so nervous about finding someone we could trust to care for him. Allison put our minds at ease ! Theo was spoiled by her and her family. We were able to really enjoy our vacation knowing he was being taken of with so much love ! He and Allison’s dog had so much fun together. We are so grateful for the wonderful experience we had.

Information Allison R. would like to know about your pet

New environment- new people - unfamiliar faces and smells. I’d like to know your dog’s schedule and or routine and will try to mimic close to it as possible. While other factors have changed, I want to adhere to a daily routine as much as possible. I may not be successful but definitely willing to try. Does he or she know any commands? How do they interact on a leash - is she or he a puller? Are they accustomed to walking side x side another dog? How do they act when seeing another dog?

A typical day

During the weekday, Happy’s schedule is a bit more rigid. He has 3 scheduled walks: early morning, early evening, and right before he goes to sleep. In the afternoon, he goes to our backyard so he can run off the energy. Happy is a Shiba Inu/ Akita mix so he likes to run. He typically runs in our back yard as this is the safest place for him to run off a leash. If your dog likes to play with balls we do have a baseball player in the house... just sayin... Also we have baseball all weekend - so most likely, your pup will be with us watching a game or games.
