Pet sitter and shelter volunteer!

Pet care experience

I grew up with the world's best yellow lab and two cats. I have experience walking, running, and caring for many pets - my sister's cats, my roommate's dogs, many pets through Rover, and a little over two years ago started to foster shelter pets. I do not have pets of my own, but will occasionally have foster kittens or a dog, but I currently have an empty house. Through fostering, I have gained experience with all kinds of pet care: giving medications, worms, scabies, kennel cough, heartworm treatment, and how to care for both high energy and nervous dogs. Autumn, a long-term foster I had about a year, was dog reactive, and I now hold a special place for fearful and reactive dogs. We were able to take private lessons and leash reactivity courses with professional trainers, and I learned so much about how to handle reactive dogs, dog enrichment activities and meeting dogs' needs, as well as about patience and empathy. She also earned her novice trick dog title while in my care, so I learned a lot about training overall and teaching fun tricks! I love all dogs, big and small, but have the most experience with large rescue dogs. I also have a lot of experience caring for kittens and cats. I love taking dogs for walks and runs, or on adventures, but I am also happy to provide high quality in-home entertainment for our more nervous friends. I have a fully fenced porch at my apartment (with plenty of squirrel-watching opportunities), and a nice quiet walking trail behind the complex. I would love to know how I can best care for your dog and keep them happy and loved while you're away! I am a regular shelter volunteer, and will be offering a 10% discount on all services for anyone who donates a bag of food to a shelter/rescue or local food bank. If you are a regular shelter volunteer, dog walker, or foster, I will offer an additional discount as well.

Alisa did a great job with our lab mix. She kept me updated and informed, and sent pictures daily! My mind was at ease knowing my pup was in good hands.

Alisa is the best! She is so thoughtful, accommodating, great with animals, and prepared—I love the daily updates she sends me to reassure me that my dog is taken care of. I can’t tell you how much peace of mind she gives me when I am out of town! I can’t imagine booking with anyone else besides her. ?? ??

Safety, trust & environment

As a foster, I have a lot of experience with helping animals decompress and get used to a new environment. I understand how it feels to leave your pet with a stranger and will provide as many updates as you would like! I have babygates I can set up to keep your pet out of the kitchen or other areas if there are any safety concerns, plenty of cozy places to nap, and a kennel if your dog prefers to stay in a crate while I'm out. I aim to approach all pets with patience and kindness, and focus on their comfort and safety while they are with me.

Information Alisa N. would like to know about your pet

While I especially love big dogs, I am a fan of all dogs and cats. I would like to know your pets special needs, usual routine, and feeding times / specifications before pet sitting. I do have experience with reactive dogs - I cared for my dog reactive foster for over a year while she looked for a home, so just let me know if there are any special considerations your dog needs.

A typical day

I would love to take your dog for a walk or run, depending on their needs. I would also play with your dog and would love to continue working on whatever training you are currently doing! I provide daily enrichment activities, and have a great neighborhood for walking and a nice quiet trail behind my apartment complex as well. I also have a Houston Arboretum membership and love to take dogs on the trails there if they like to hike!

I currently work full-time. I can crate your pet, or leave them out as needed. I usually do a good walk before work, a short walk after, and a long evening walk, using mealtimes for enrichment activities. I do not usually come home for lunch, but I can make arrangements to do so if necessary.
