Pet care experience
I’ve been dog-sitting professionally providing doggy-daycare and dog-boarding for six years (DogBuddy, before Rover took it over). I’ve always been an animal-lover. After having cats as a little one in London, I then grew up from the age of seven in the Shropshire countryside with dogs, chickens, rabbits, Guinea pigs, fish, etc., next to a vet surgery and down the road from a chicken farm. Dog-sitting provided fantastic socialisation for my own dog as a pup, and, a form of exercise for us both. My Freddie is very excited when he first meets someone at our house - that’s the Springer side of him - but the rest of the time he’s more Labrador horizontal and the most chilled character you’ll ever meet. He sleeps a lot! Out on walks/runs his main interest is getting the miles in. Freddie has helped lots of dogs to be less anxious and improve their recall. Freddie and his friends have access to our fenced-in garden all day, unless it’s especially wet or cold (and then it’s regularly opened or opened when cues are given). Dogs coming here would get plenty of play with Freddie if they’re playful, plenty of cuddles with me if they’re cuddly, or they can just chill and have some time not being fussed but being around someone if that’s more their personality, or, a combination if they’re the kind of dog that likes some attention but also likes their alone time. I tend to play some relaxing jazz/classical music or radio news shows in the background, have plenty of non-precious blankets around, and, grooming brushes for doggie who like a little groom. If they need a wash after a particularly muddy forest hike, I’ve got natural dog shampoo. My downstairs in separated by a door. There’s nothing particularly precious or chewable kept downstairs, my child’s toys are kept upstairs or in high up toy baskets, so, puppies are welcome! (Be aware the number Rover gives is not my mobile number - I get messages from the app and text notifications, I can’t receive calls on here).

Fenced-in medium-sized back garden (high fences, too high for any jumpers). Two locks on the gate to the front garden - one on the inside and one on the outside (this is for my toddler’s safety and peace of mind for Rover clients, before my daughter came along I didn’t have a fence or gate and Freddie was just trained to know not to wander into the road when I had the front door open). Video doorbell. Medications are kept locked in a safe in a high cupboard to be away from children and animals. Anything precious is kept in a locked fireproof cabinet. I always keep some Hibiscrub around to clean any minor cuts for dogs. Fire alarms have batteries changed when needed and I have a little extinguisher and fire blanket for emergencies. The back door has a fire safety lock, so if keys can’t be found there’s no risk of being trapped. I have charcoal in the house for if ever Freddie swallowed something toxic for him, such as chocolate (but wouldn’t administer this myself for someone else’s pet without advice from a vet). I have my vet’s number in my phone and their number on a fridge magnet on my fridge, they are only a 20 min walk or very short drive away. It’s important to put your vet’s information into the Rover app and also ensure we’ve switched phone numbers in case of any issues.

Information Alice J. would like to know about your pet
If you dog is child-friendly or not (although, my child is at school full-time and with her dad every other weekend and Weds/Thurs. If your dog has any triggers (breeds of dogs, traffic, etc.) If your dog is a rescue (with perhaps unknown triggers) or not. If your dog likes being picked up or not. If your dog has any food allergies.
A typical day
I live near three parks (two within a five minute walk and one within fifteen minute walk) and the canal, the river around twenty minutes, and, Perry Wood just 30 minutes walk away. I have a fenced garden for playing fetch on a mild day or to chill in the shade on hot days. My house is all laminate flooring downstairs and pleather furniture for a cool temperature and easy clean-up with a dog and toddler. The living room, dining room/office, kitchen downstairs and garden are all open plan for dogs to move around freely. I have a few dogs that come several days a week for doggy-daycare with me & Freddie. We tend to do some fetch in the garden and cuddles indoors until the right weather window and then we typically go for a 2-5-mile walk/run. I take water and treats with me. They have more water, food and a nap when they get back.

I’m home all the time for my dog, Freddie. I privately tutor in English revision/ESOL/EAL online and I’m always doing some professional development courses online for my teaching. Freddie loves having the company of other dogs to play with but he also enjoys playing with my daughter or sleeping at my feet while I work/study. I have the freedom to take Freddie and dogs I take care of out at any time during the day, where we go is just weather-dependent.
