Reliable & Flexible Animal Lover ♡

Pet care experience

I do provide same day accommodations and accept last minute service requests given a 2 hour lead time 😇 Hi pet parents! My name is Alia and I'm an endlessly adoring and reliable animal lover with 6 years worth of experience caring for animals. I was first introduced to animals when I began babysitting at 16 and slowly transitioned from watching children to watching pets. Since then I've consistently worked for friends and families to care for their dogs, cats, and exotic animals (particularly reptiles, chinchillas, bunnies, and ferrets). Over the years my experience has led me to work with families with differently-abled animals, elderly cats and dogs, retired military dogs, cats that require orally administered medication, and animals that have specific dietary restrictions. While I specialize boarding, sitting, and caring for dogs up to 150 pounds including German Shepards, Alaskan Malamutes, Bernese Mountain Dogs, and Huskies, I have no preference for animals of a specific breed, age, or temperament. That being said my home gladly welcomes Pit Bull Terriers and black cats with open arms. Families can rest assure knowing that all animals under my care are all greatly and equally loved. As of December 2023 I have permanently relocated from my student residence in Troy, NY to central Manhattan. While a full-time graduate student attending Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, I've provided my services to the families of prospective and current students, university faculty, traveling business-persons, and the local residences of Troy and adjacent neighborhoods as the town's top rated sitter. Since falling in love with pet care and having officially graduated, I've decided to move back home to New York City as to transition my love for animals from holistic self-care to become my full-time livelihood. For the last 4 years in Troy, beginning during my 2nd year as an undergrad at RPI, I've been sitting, walking, and caring for my neighbor's 110 pound Bernese Mountain Dog. Our typical routine would have me walking him before and after my classes, accompanying him at home while his mom was away on trips, and occasionally bringing him with me on campus or into my own home if I'm planning on studying for extended periods of time. During during the holidays, semester breaks, and summers in New York City you were able to find me being the ever so doting cat-aunt to my good friend's Domestic Shorthair while she's on business trips. Additionally I'm an attentive step-mom to my best friend's Spotted Leopard Gecko while she's also during California's forest fire season. Needless to say my experience and love for animals as been a part of me for quite some time long before I even began Rover. A standard session with me includes extensive, in-depth daily reports in regards to how your pets are adjusting under my care, if they're adhering to their routines, and all the things (exciting or mundane) that happened that day. After all, not only is my top priority to provide excellent care and endless love to your furry friends but it is also my job to give you the peace of mind you need to comfortably go about your day as a pet parent. You should also expect to receive sporadic photos and videos throughout your pets play-date with me as I can't help myself from taking photos if they're doing something cute. Additionally, my services do include doing simple grooming routines, small housecleaning tasks, and running short errands. They just need to be brought to my attention prior so I can prepare. I firmly believe that if you're paying for my time, attention, and devotion, your pet should be receiving all those things in full. That being said, your pets will never be left unattended or alone. Not only do I make it my top priority, but I take great pride in having a schedule flexible enough to let me make any and all necessary adjustments in order to accommodate to your booking. Whether it be shifting some things in my day around or being able to include your pet into my day-to-day, when you book with me I do the work for you. **Please note that I do not "double-book" or book with multiple families within overlapping time slots/dates for the same service. Unfortunately no exceptions can be made except only if the animals in question have been previously introduced and all families involved can attest to the animals' comfortability with one another for extended joint care.** **I am currently open to all service inquiries with no minimum durations (including one-time bookings) but am prioritizing looking to communicate with families who are looking for full-time walkers and sitters. I am specifically looking to onboard 4 new families for recurring, daily walks and/or check-ins (minimum 2 times/day for 4 days/week). Please feel free to send a message to inquire more!**

Alia was a great overnight sitter for our two dogs (35lbs and 60lbs). She was able to handle them in a pretty dog-packed apartment building and on walks. Both of them enjoyed having her over and warmed up to her quickly.

Alia was a wonderful overnight sitter for our 1.5 year old pup Sturgill. She is extremely attentive, communicative snd always sent daily updates accompanied by photos and videos. This really made us feel comfortable that Sturge was in great hands and enjoying himself. I highly recommend her and will definitely book her again.

Alia was amazing! She was so patient with my very anxious dog, who seemed to warm up to her quickly. She was also exceptionally responsive and flexible.

Safety, trust & environment

In my personal experience, I've found that adhering as closely to the schedule, routine, and walking routes that your pet is accustomed to works best to ensure that things run as smoothly as possible with little to no hiccups, resistance, and/or outbursts. That being said, unless it cannot be helped or it has been previously discussed, I have no intentions of introducing your pet to new environments, animals, or stimuli as to minimize any anxiety and prevent any subsequent hostile behaviors that your pet may experience. For families with in-home security/surveillance systems, while I am comfortable with being recorded within your building's premises and within your home, all that I ask is that you notify me beforehand just so that I am aware prior to my arrival and am not welcomed to an unanticipated surprised greeting me at the door.

Information Alia Y. would like to know about your pet

MEDICAL INFORMATION 1. Does your pet have any physical medical conditions and/or mental health disorders? Do they need any specific medication administered to them while they're with me? 2. Does your pet have any allergies? 3. Does your pet have any dietary restrictions? BEHAVIORIAL & PERSONALITY 1. Does your pet exhibit aggressive behaviors and/or destructive tendencies towards other animals, humans, or anything specific? Are they dog friendly? Are they children friendly? 2. Is your pet more hyper and physically active or are they more reserved and laid back? 3. Can your pet enter establishments for short periods of time while remaining composed (no barking and no jumping on people or counters)? TRAINING 1. How good is your pet's recall with people that aren't you? Do they behave and recall well when off-leashed? 2. Regardless of how well they respond to commands from you, to your knowledge does your pet struggle to respond to commands given by people not from your household? 3. Does your pet have a release word? Do they know any defense commands? If so, what words should I avoid using around them? **I will be requesting that you provide a complete list of all successfully reinforced commands that your pet knows. This can be done through any digital medium (Rover's chat, SMS text, .txt file, GoogleDoc link, etc.) of your choosing so long as you are comfortable with it and it is a way that can be easily accessible to me on my phone.** ROUTINE 1. When does your pet normally wake up/go to bed? When do they normally have breakfast/lunch/dinner? When do they normally go out to use the bathroom? 2. How much of what snacks are they allowed to have? 3. On average, how many times does your pet go potty per day?

A typical day

I do my best to plan activities based on your pets temperament and personality. For more active dogs I am able to walk three times a day with a single walk being upwards of an hour and a half for as many as 12 miles a day. On the flip side, for less physically rigorous dogs I tend to limit our time outside to around a maximum of 20 minutes at a time. Outdoor activities that would fall under these circumstances would include taking your pet out with me while I run errands for you, grabbing a silly little drink for myself, visiting a dog park, playing in the snow, or enjoying some sit-down time on a patch of grass while we have a little picnic for just the two of us. These activities would only be considered after through communication with you to establish (1) what circumstances/environments you are comfortable with me bringing your dog along, (2) understanding the full picture of how your dog responds to external stimuli outdoors, and (3) confirming your dog's abilities to effectively respond to my attempts of recall. At the end of the day, I would want to be able to present to you at least a small handful of activities so you can rest assure that when you're not around your pet will have the opportunity to interact with the outside world in a safe and educational manner. If they're not the most outdoorsy kind of dog we can always default to the classic staying indoors; watching TV together, having one-on-one therapy sessions, cuddling up while I do some work, or excitedly pacing alongside me while making something to eat. Regardless of what kind of dog you have I always do my best to plan to make sure they feel the most comfortable and loved as they can be.

I hope that by the end of 2024 I'll be able to successfully say that I've graduated from being a part-time pet sitter to full-time a pet nanny. That being said, I am wholeheartedly committed to tending to the needs and wants of the animals under my care to the highest degree within my capabilities. This includes acclimating my schedule in order to maintain the routine of your household and taking the necessary time (no matter how long!) to tailor my style of care to ensure they respond positively to my authority. I am thankful to be able to live in an area that makes traveling across Manhattan and into the neighboring boroughs (Queens, Brooklyn, and the Bronx) accessible. Additionally, since I was once a Queens resident who used to commute to Bronx Science all throughout high school I am also completely comfortable commuting upwards to 2 hours one-way without complaint.
