Animal lover and urban adventurer!
Pet care experience
I am a recent college graduate working primarily as a set and costume designer, but also an afterschool teacher at a private school in Brooklyn. My work is on and off and I often have early mornings and afternoons free. I don't do well with idle time an would much rather be engaged in something active and meaningful. I have always been an animal lover and have often thought about pursuing a career caring for animals. I used to volunteer at Bide-a-Wee, a NYC animal shelter, where I would walk, play and brighten up the animals' day. As a kid my parents sent me to zoo keeping camp where I had the amazing opportunity to work with and care for all kinds of exotic animals. I worked with emus, lemurs, aardvarks and all sorts of other wild creatures. This inspired me later in life to go to Costa Rica and work at a wildlife sanctuary for a short while. There my daily life was dedicated to caring for a whole other variety of exotic animals. I played with kinkajous and monkeys, nursed injured turtles, fed feisty toucans and became foster mother for a young, orphaned sloth. I have had many pets growing up starting with goldfish and then working my way up to salamanders and on my 7th birthday I was finally allowed to get a dog. Since that time I have scarcely been pet-less and only because my college didn't allow pets in the dorms. It was obvious during that time that I couldn't live without animals in my life. I am currently the proud owner of two young cats, and yet that doesn't seem to be enough for me. I also regularly feed a family of stray cats that visits my backyard. I am looking to make even more new furry friends and help out busy people living the fast-paced New York lifestyle!
Reviews
I have known Ali quite well for many years, and I can easily and honestly say that she is one of very few people who I would trust with any animal of mine, not just my dogs. She has extensive experience with dogs and many other animals, and understands how to interact empathetically with animals in a way that few people do. Would I trust her to walk my dogs for me? Absolutely. She is the very first person on the list of people who I would trust to do so.
I have three Great Danes, one of which is deaf, and one of which is very old. Because it's such a difficult bunch, Alixandra has been my go-to dog sitter and dog walker for over two years now. I don't know what I would do without her! She handles them better than even my daughter can, and dedicates the time and energy that I ask, even with her busy schedule. We love you Ali! -Carolyn (and Taco, Lena Hall, and Cactus)
