I have been working professionally with animals since I was 10 years old. Starting with an animal sanctuary that brought in abused or abandoned animals, ranging from horses, to cows, and to dogs. My main job was to aid in rehabilitation and be a primary care giver to these animals. I was able to have the animals trust in people again, as well as become healthier. My other experience in animal care was working at the local animal shelter as a kennel cleaner for dogs and cats, as well as helping with adoptions. With this aspect I was able to work with the animals individually to understand them and best pair them with a family. This is easier said than done since many animals were fearful, but it was rewarding in the end. I still pet set for family and friends when they are gone for long weekends. Typically with dog sitting I do not stay at the house, but I will stay as long as needed to help the pets relax.
