Hi everyone! I've had my dog, Pepper, for 9 years and always had cats growing up (and still do). I've always been the biggest animal lover- I truly believe animals are the only beings capable of unconditional love and that they are the best teachers when it comes to giving and receiving love. For that, I have so much respect and profound gratitude for animals and for the relationships we get to have with them. Pepper is a Shetland Sheepdog- a classic herding dog with breed typical obsessive compulsive traits and a lot of instinct to nurture. Having a dog like her has taught me so much about having loving boundaries, patience, and prioritizing exercise. She has made sure that I know how to care for a high energy dog, providing them with adequate activities and stimuli that bring us both joy. Pepper is allergic to everything (grain, poultry, starches) so I'm no stranger to caring for dogs with significant food allergies and skin problems. I put her on a raw diet last year and we've had astonishing results. If your dog has dietary restrictions or is on a very specific diet, rest assured that there's no diet that is "too complicated" that I'm not willing and able to accomodate. Pepper and I worked on a horse and cattle ranch together for a summer, so I have experience working with a group of dogs that function in a pack (as they do) and with dogs that have a prevalent herding instinct. Pepper is amazing with other dogs and I have dog sat for many of my friends over long periods of time. Pepper has even companioned two geriatric dogs for the month leading up to their transition to doggy heaven. One of them, her cousin Zoey, was notoriously dog aggressive and only seemed to get along with Pepper. It's as if I have a therapy dog for other dogs. She is also great with most cats and has grown up with my cat Merlin her whole life. The only cats she has struggled to cohabitate with in the past were cats that had no tolerance for dogs at all. My cat Merlin, having grown up with a dog, is great with pretty much every dog he meets. He's also been great with other cats- I fostered a young female cat for almost a year and they were extremely bonded. I also fostered an older male cat for an extended period of time (apx 4 months) and they too became very close. In all of these scenarios, both my dog and cat bonded to an equal degree with their feline foster siblings. The only issues Merlin has had with other cats were with young males that rivaled him in size. Now that I've written full bios for each of my animals, I suppose I could tell you a bit about myself. I'm 31 and live alone in a 2 bedroom townhouse. I'd like to make use of the extra space by welcoming your animal companion(s) in to my home and providing them the love and care that I would offer if they were my own. I've noticed that, as Pepper has gotten older, she really enjoys the company and companionship of other dogs. She likes being in a pack. Her favorite part of the day is when we go take my neighbor's 2 old dachshunds out for a walk. So this is really a way for her to have more friends, haha. I live right down the street from Griffith Park, so your dog would be able to join us on awesome hikes ALL the time.
