Work @ home, large park, avid hiker

Pet care experience

Dogs are the best! I work from home and have a very flexible schedule. I trained/ raised 3 seeing-eye dogs for The Guide Dog Foundation and was a foster volunteer for 2+ years with the Humane Society to take care of young puppies before they get adopted. I don't have any cats/birds/kids/pterodactyls at home, just my dog Luca. He's VERY good with dogs of all sizes and adjusts his energy level accordingly. He'll play with any dog that wants to but he's also quite good at sensing their boundaries and will happily mind his own business around less social dogs. He's an affectionate goof but prefers sleeping on the floor rather than furniture, so if you have a people-oriented 'lap dog' they'd get full dibs as my sidekick on the couch. :) MEDICAL EXPERIENCE--- I was a medic for 10 years- having extensive medical experience is helpful in emergencies and I do know animal CPR. Beyond healthy dogs I also have experience with 3-10 week old puppies, senior dogs, dogs with medical problems, and have worked with semi-paralyzed and disabled dogs in the past. I can administer subcutaneous shots, pills, ear or eye drops, etc.. I'm happy to watch younger (un-potty-trained) puppies as long as they have already weaned from their mothers-- I used to take care of puppy litters for the humane society and have a large specialty pen for un-trained pups, and a lot of experience working with them.

Alex was great! She took amazing care of our dog Dune and I could tell he was so happy and well cared for when we picked him up. Thanks Alex!

Our 5 month old lab, Burt, had the best time with Alex and her dog Luca! She sent updates and photos/videos and showed us a great new way to slow feed him because in typical lab fashion he’s a very fast eater. It was so nice to know that our pup was in good hands and having a great time while we were away and I would absolutely recommend Alex to anyone looking for a dog sitter.

Alex is a fantastic puppy sitter! She boarded our 5 month old bernedoodle for 5 nights. Alex is obviously very experienced with puppies, and was willing to keep training her according to the various cues we had been using. Alex even helped us solve the source of the tummy issues she had since we got her which was much appreciated! Her dog Luca is really friendly and tolerant, and kept our pups well entertained while she was there. We can whole-heartedly recommend her!

Safety, trust & environment

I only host 1 person's dogs at a time in order to ensure your pets are safe and aren't overwhelmed by the presence of other dog-guests. My 1450-sqft townhouse is on a quiet suburban cul-de-sac with no thru-traffic and I live 1.5 blocks from Boulder's open space trail hiking network. My private 430-sqft fenced yard/patio faces a grassy park which is fantastic for playing fetch, and Boulder's largest park (Tantra) is right around the corner.

Information Alex M. would like to know about your pet

I'm adaptable to all sorts of dogs' energy levels and personalities, so just to let me know what you'd like during your dog's stay here and I'll make sure they're comfortable. :)

A typical day

I'm very active and can take your dog on as much or little of an adventure as they want. I live next to the creek path and Boulder Open Space trails, which are beautiful for walking and safely away from road traffic. My dog loves Valmont Dog Park and I'd be happy to bring your dog there as often as you'd like. I'll treat your dog just like mine and make sure all park interactions are supervised, safe, and fun. If your pup is less of a dog-park-enthusiast no worries-- I run half-marathons regularly and can run with your dog if he/she is high-energy, hit the trails if they're avid hikers, bring 'em to Twin Lakes, the Reservoir, or creek spots for some swimming, or take it easy with them if they're more mellow. I love the outdoors, so just tell me what you and your dog are comfortable with and I'll stick to your preferences.
