Pet care experience
I have been a family dog owner for 10 years. Our first dog was a stubborn lazybones and the newer dog is high energy and loves games and wrestling other dogs. Both were small-medium sized dogs. I volunteered with an organization that trained Psychiatric Service Dogs, and have dog-sat dogs as large as a Bull Mastiff. I've watched dogs who loved long walks, dogs who basically just needed me to unlock a door, and dogs who needed company for a while when their people were out of town. When I visit or meet a new dog out and about, I am very conscientious of giving the dog space, and letting them get to know me on their terms, even though I'm so excited to meet them. I also have house-sat and babysat, and am great at keeping a space clean. I'm happy to turn on/off different lights to make the place seemed more lived in, to bring in mail and papers, and to keep an eye on other little things while I am there for your dogs. In terms of medical/general care, I have administered oral antibiotics, vitamins, and chemotherapy drugs (oral). I can work with a dog to get its teeth brushed, and patiently do multiple sessions of gentle brushing for dogs with messy coats. When it comes to rewards and reinforcement, I am a big user of verbal praise, and all of the dogs I have had have liked me even though I wasn't the one slipping them constant Milky Bones. As a dog sitter, I enjoy getting to know the dog and making sure their expectations are being met (as well as their owner) to give the dog a calming experience. With all things, I want to give the dog consistency and make sure you, the client, are comfortable that your pet is being cherished and cared for as if you were there with them.
Reviews
Alex was a great sitter - my pups were happy and chill when I came home, and the house was in good order. They both took to Alex instantly during the meet and greet, so I had no doubts! I will definitely be requesting Alex again very soon for another sitting!!
Alex has a very strong work ethic and is responsible, but is even better characterized by his thoughtfulness and compassion. I have a VERY unruly labrador/border collie mix who typically scares visitors away, but when Alex is around her he does an excellent job of showering her with affection and playing with her while also gently keeping her in line (for example, he doesn't let her jump on him or tolerate excessive barking because he knows I am trying to break those habits). He is one of the few people I trust to look after my excessively mischievous pup. His love for animals and understanding and respect of their needs makes him a wonderful canine caregiver.

Information Alex G. would like to know about your pet
I want to know what type of walks the dog usually goes on? Do they get leisurely sniffing expeditions, energy burning power-walks, or social promenades. I would like to know if the dog is sensitive to changes in schedule, so I can make sure to keep them comfortable with a new person. It's also good to know what commands and behaviors the family is working on and using with the dog, so I can help reinforce those and communicate with the dog in a way they will understand.
A typical day
The dog and I will do a combination of walks around their neighborhood and doing a bit of sightseeing. Unless it's a regular habit of theirs, we won't go to dog parks or places with a lot of dogs. We'll make sure to check out areas that are grassy with lots of good smells, and take longer walks at the cooler parts of the day. When we're hanging out, I'll make sure to check in and chat with the dog every so often. If we need downtime, I'll sit and do some school readings. I love playing fetch and throwing things for dogs, as well as playing tug of war. If it makes them happy, I can sit and pet and brush for a very long time!
