Albeit I do not own a pet, I love animals and always have. From the time I was young, I have always wanted a pet. I would beg my parents for a goldfish at each fair we attended in those summers. When I got a little older, I graduated to hamsters, hermit crabs, & a pet-sitting "business" around the neighborhood for cats, dogs, fishes, ferrets, & more. Because I showed such responsibility & care for others' pets, my mom felt I was responsible for a pet of my own. That is when I got to own my first cat & had him for 17 years. When I moved to DC in 2011, I missed my cat but could not afford to own a pet in the city. Because of that, I pet-sat for some colleagues off-and-on throughout the years. When I moved in with my roommates, I would take care of their dogs while they were on trips or away overnight, so I am more than used to boarding with an animal & sleeping with one as well. When I lived with one roommate, I cared for her dog multiple times when she was not in the city. During those walks or when we would just be in the apartment, I would send my roommate pictures & videos so she would know he was okay. If it seemed he was experiencing separation anxiety or was having some potty problems, I would share those with her as well. This is when I started to gain confidence that I can work another animal's routine in with mine. I also took care of a colleague's cat in 2018 for a few days. I sent her a picture each day to ensure that she knew that the cat was doing okay. When the cat started to vomit the one night, I inspected it, relied on my previous knowledge as a cat owner & monitored the cat for another hour or so. I also contacted my friend who is a veterinarian to ensure that the cat's symptoms were normal.
