Alana, Chip and Gizmo!

Pet care experience

Hi! My name is Alana and I am the proud momma to two canine fur babies! Chip is 3 years old and a 5 pound Yorkie. Gizmo is nearly 2 years old and is an 18 pound terrier mix. I grew up with dogs and absolutely love them. My family had a Yorkie and a German Shepherd when I was younger and right now, my family has a Havanese and a Goldendoodle. We love our puppies!! I spoil my little boys and I promise to take the utmost care of your little (or big ones too) ones too. We go on frequent walks and at least one trip a day to the dog park (two + times on weekends if weather allows!) Gizmo and Chip are super friendly and love meeting new dogs. We would lovingly welcome your furbaby into our home! ___ A little bit about myself: I am a 27 year old MD/PhD candidate at Georgetown University. Currently, I am doing full time research in the lab. The great perk of running your own research is flexibility, which makes it very feasible for me to take care (and spoil!) my own dogs, but also any others that are visiting or in the area. I have watched many dogs for friends informally and am happy to provide references upon request. When I'm not busy in the lab or puppy sitting, you can find me on my bike exploring DC or in the gym where I focus on olympic-lifting! I grew up playing soccer competitively, so on weekends, you can find me on the pitch with my team, the California Burritos- we have three consecutive league titles under our belt!!

We were so happy to have Alana as our dog's sitter and highly recommend her. She's great with dogs, very clearly loves them, and sent updates throughout my dog's stay. Her dogs are adorable and got my usually tuckered out senior dog to play and run around - it was fantastic to see. He came home super happy!

Alana was so great with Paisley! She was super flexible with me dropping him off and picking him up and sent multiple pictures over the weekend. He's new to DC so it was great that he made new friends with her dogs as well! I would highly recommend Alana for any of your sitting needs.

I highly recommend this sitter! Alana is loving, responsible, and I feel fully confident to leave my pup with her. She's super easy to reach, and her own two dogs are the absolute sweetest! I am and will be a repeat customer. You will feel safe and at ease leaving your beloved with her :-)

I couldn't have been happier with Alana! She kept me updated with texts and cute pictures, letting me know what my little one was up to during his stay. I felt completely confident that he was being wonderfully cared for by Alana and her roommate, and I knew he was getting lots of quality playtime with Alana's own pups! I am pretty sure Huey already misses them :)

Information Alana L. would like to know about your pet

I love any and all dogs! I am happy to accept dogs of any size and age into my own as long as they are comfortable with other dogs and don't mind playing a little bit. Gizmo in particular loves to wrestle and play tug. Chip is a little more reserved, but he will wrestle and play at times too. _____ Some things that are useful to know: -What is your dog's personality like? -Are there any medical issues I should be aware of? -How is your pooch on leash? When he or she meets other dogs on walks? -Are dog parks OK? -What does your feeding schedule look like? How much food? How many times a day?

A typical day

So what does a typical day look like in our household? We tend to be early risers and after a quick morning walk, Gizmo and Chip snuggle up next to me while I drink my coffee and catch up on email and work. Once snuggle time is over (usually an hour- Gizmo and Chip love nestling up right next to me and it's so hard to deny puppy snuggles!), C+G get their breakfast (around 7am). I almost exclusively feed my dogs home-cooked meals. This is what my family has been doing since before I was born, and our dogs have always been incredibly healthy and lived longer than the majority of dogs their breeds. Generally, I made a nice stew for my boys with farrow, barley, protein (beef, chicken, or pork usually), and plenty of veggies (celery, carrots, potatoes, and more!) I am very cautious to make sure all ingredients are pet-safe but again, my family has been feeding our dogs like this for years and no complaints so far! I also always leave kibble out for the boys to munch on. They have developed quite the palate though, and usually prefer to wait for the next meal! :) I am happy to oblige by your dog's dietary needs and restrictions if you kindly provide me with his or her food. After a quick walk, it's time for me to go to to CrossFit and hit the gym! After I finish my workout and shower up, I run back home to check on my little men. They are usually deep in their first of many naps by this point! Then it's off to work so I leave the boys to guard the house! I am often able to nip back home during the day to walk the boys. However, since C+G are wee-wee pad trained, they are quite fine being on their own for several hours. If I do go back home during the day, I give the boys a little snack to tide them over. However, they have adjusted well to a 2-meal a day system and I tend to stick to that. Once I'm home for good for the day, the very first thing we do is hit up the dog park! C+G know this is the routine and wait (not so patiently!) by their harnesses and leashes. We spend a minimum of half an hour at the park, but generally, we are there closer to an hour (we have many human and canine friends there!). If your dog is not a dog-park dog, that's not a problem! We can instead take a long walk. After the park, C+G get their dinner (around 6-7pm). They get another short walk before it's time to hit the sack and get ready for another day! C+G sleep in bed with me. Your pooch is welcome to sleep wherever he or she pleases (bed, couch, doggie bed, crate, etc)!
