I booked Alai to take care of my cats during my extended overseas visit. Alai had indicated that they can visit my home a weekend afternoon (either Saturday or Sunday). Alai was booked for 1 hour visits and I gave them clear instructions on what they need to do in order to provide care for my cats (fill up feeder boxes, clean and refill water bowls, clean water fountains and clean litter boxes). To watch my cats during the time I was away, I had video cameras installed, hence I know exactly what Alai did during the drop in visits. I had also specifically told Alai to let me know what times they can visit since Alai had indicated that they may not go at the specific time during each visit. On the very first visit, Alai went on a Sunday afternoon and spent 15 minutes total at the house. To remind everyone, they were booked for an hour. Did not clean the water bowls or the water fountain, just dumped the old water and refilled the bowls and fountain. Did not refill the pet feeder. I thought that was odd, but did not complain thinking it was the first visit and that I can get it corrected during their next drop in visit. The next weekend, Alai did not go there entire Saturday. I got no communication regarding when they can go Sunday. So I messaged Saturday night. I was overseas and did not always have internet access, my message probably reached Alai after midnight. There was no response till about noon Sunday so I messaged again. Alai sent a one line response saying they are going to go there in a bit. When I did not hear from Alai till 8 PM Boston time, I sent another message. Alai only responded an hour later, said that they finished the visit 30 minutes earlier and started complaining about too many messages. What struck me was the extremely rude tone of their messages. I am thinking to myself that the messages I sent to Alai were only related to the care of my cats and were sent only because I was not getting any clarity on when they will be visiting but I tried to look away from it. It was not until the next morning that I got to see the video feeds. Alai had spent roughly 10 minutes in the apartment did not top off the feeders, did not clean the water bowls or the water fountains and did not even clean the litter box. I called up Rover immediately after that and asked them to help me find a new sitter. Now here comes the worst part of this ordeal. Alai would not return the keys or even respond to messages regarding return of the keys. I waited for a few hours to get a response then called Rover around 10 PM Boston time to have them intervene. Rover sent Alai a message asking to respond. I got no response till about 8 AM Boston time the next day so I called Rover again. At that point, the Rover agent sent Alai a message to return the keys by noon and told me that the matter will be escalated if the keys are not returned in time. Alai finally returned the keys at 11.40 AM and did not even bother to communicate with me earlier. There are obviously several issues here and I am still in the process of providing all the information to Rover teams. However, wanted to leave a review and warn others as well. As pet owners, we want someone to love them and take care of them just as much as we do. I hope nobody has to experience what my pets and I had to go through.
