Staycation while you’re on vacation

Pet care experience

I have been pet sitting for 9+ years and can provide excellent references. I tend to book in advance because my clients know their pets are receiving the best of care. We go on daily excursions and I provide photo updates via text, so you know they are having a ball (no pun intended). I will love and care for your doggies like they were my own. They usually come with me to my home. I live near Wilton Manors in South Middle River in Fort Lauderdale. I have 7 lb Bishon/mini poodle who loves new playmate guests. Every dog that stays with us gets treated like one of the pack. My goal is for them to have the best time on their Staycation. We have fun, play with toys, go on walks and excursions which are all included in the boarding fee. This is the main job for me, so I’m usually with them at all times. I have watched dogs with social anxiety issues and they have done great. As long as the owners approve, we go for walks, dog parks, beaches to restaurants (if they are behaved) and have access to a private salt water pool for those who enjoy a nice swim. I have a very large, secured fenced yard and one friendly Bishon/mini poodle who likes new friends to play with. We like to go on doggie adventures and have as much fun as possible. I have a beautiful secure fenced yard. There is a grassy area for them to roll in or handle their business. If the dogs sleep in a crate, on the couch, on the bed or dog bed, then they can do that during their stay. My goal is to make sure they are comfortable, happy and having the best time possible while their owners are away. Regular photo and video updates are included. My ideal client will do a meet and greet prior to booking their stay. This gives everyone a chance to meet and see if we are a good match. If the client is going to be late or needs to cancel for any reason, communicating this to me as much as in advanced as possible establishes a good rapport. Those who are late or just don’t show up will probably not be considered a good fit. Aggressive dogs will not be allowed to book. Dogs who have not been spayed or neutered may be denied. Safety and the health/well being are my #1 concerns. The dog boarding is my #1 job/gig, but I also do ad sales for a local pet magazine and freelance photography and writing. Accommodating the guests’ schedules and owner’s requests are a top priority. My yard is very safe and secure. Sticking to guests schedules to the best of my ability is a goal. So far I’ve had a perfect track record and would like to keep it that way.

The Lord led me to Aja! I needed a trustworthy dog sitter for my 7 toy poodles! Aja exceeded my expectations and provided my babies with a memorable experience. As a dog mom, I sincerely desire the absolute best care. I was terribly hesitant about being away from my poodles overnight. I found Aja and she welcomed my poodles with open arms. Most sitters decline service due to the quantity. Aja gave me a phenomenal rate and quality care! I felt comfortable knowing that they were in excellent hands. She kept me up to date with daily videos and photos! She is hand down an authentic gem! I highly recommend her service!

I highly recommend Aja to watch your fur babies. What relief knowing they're in good hands. Way better alternative to boarding. A true animal lover.

The difficult part in finding a pet sitter is feeling comfortable before and during your stay, that your dog will be in good hands. Aja was very friendly and asked all the right questions, so I felt comfortable. I expressed how my dog, when left alone outside, will dig holes in the yard, but very easily corrected when told so. All was good until 2 nights before the scheduled pick up when I was advised that I needed to come fix here yard ASAP because my dog dug a hole. I do not need to provide all the text communication, but it did not leave a comforting feeling being so far away and the sitter appeared angry with me. I wanted to jump on a flight immediately and come get my dog. On the day to pick up my dog, I was asked to pick up supplies to fix her yard and it was implied I would be fixing the yard. All of this was avoidable if my dog was monitored. Aja was very professional in person but when I am over a thousand miles away the text message conversations make you feel uneasy and that things are not in control. The yard maintenance issue could have waited until pick up time, and I feel that issues not an emergency can wait. I did fork up the money on the maintenance supplies requested in addition to paying for the sitter service. I will not be a repeat customer, and suggest if you have a medium to large, or active dog, you move on. Small, calm lap dogs will be a great fit for this sitter.

Aja really helped us out with Dexter, taking him in for the day on short notice. We got plenty of pics and some video showing him having a blast with her and her puppy. Overall it was a great experience and we look forward to the next time Dexter needs day care.

I love all breeds! I have a huge place in my heart for Rottweilers, Bull Mastiffs and other dogs, but I own a Mini poodle/bishon so little dogs are great too. She (Katinka) has interacted well with all of our boarders so far. She usually will play for hours if the guest is up for it. If they are used to sleeping on the bed, they are more than welcome. Most clients will bring a dog bed or crate and toys so whatever makes the pets most comfortable because they are likely missing their owner(s). What to expect? I would ask if your fur baby is dog friendly and we usually do meet-and-greets beforehand to make sure we are a good match. That usually eases any fears and allows the pups to be introduced so they can get used to their staycation and check out the yard. If they are aggressive in any way over toys or attention or food, I pay extra attention to them and that’s the main reason they are denied. Dogs who lack training, are unmanageable or out of control may not be a good fit because safety is my #1 concern. If the dog has any special needs, medication or behavior issues, it’s always good to know ahead of time. Vaccine records, rabies shots and any other pertinent information are all requirements to stay. Dogs who are neutered or spayed are more likely to be approved. Owners can expect regular photos & videos during the stay so they can rest assured that everyone is having a great time. I’m a freelance photographer so it’s really a nice bonus to have some excellent high-quality shots. Many of my clients have used them for their social media and even holiday cards.

A typical day

We will go on walks to in the neighborhood or visit the dog park at Bark Yard n Brews, Performance Pups, Holiday, Collahatchee or Oakland Park. Depending on the owner’s preference and dog’s energy, we may play at dog parks or the beach. My goal is to have them be as tired as possible by the end of the day so we tend to stay busy. A tired dog is a happy dog.
