Dog & Cat Sitter, Walker, Trainer

Pet care experience

NOTICES -I provide visits and walks between the hours of 7am-7pm. I am unable to accept bookings outside of these hours. -If you would like your dog walked longer than just a potty break, please be sure you book for a walk and not a drop in visit. -Please be sure that your pet is up-to-date on vaccines and flea prevention! -I provide services within 12 driving miles of Juban Parc Clubhouse. I can often see pets outside of my service range, but it includes a $5 minimum travel fee, which can increase depending on how far outside of the range you are. Feel free to inquire if you're not sure where you fall in the radius! -If you are gone for an extended period, I am happy to water your plants and bring in mail at each visit at no additional cost. -I do not use aversive training equipment on walks, such as shock collars, prong collars, or choke chains. If you only have these items to walk your dog, I actually have several harnesses of varying sizes and styles that I keep in my car to use instead, including escape-proof ones! Martingale collars, head halters, and front-clipping harnesses are fine, but I often prefer to use my own gear anyway, just because I am more familiar with it, especially my canicross leash! I love that leash. I grew up on a ranch in Montana and have been around and owned dogs all my life, primarily shepherds and collies. I've been a professional dog trainer since 2016, and I've worked with many kinds of breeds, ages, sizes, and temperaments in both behavioral and medical settings. I am very familiar with nervous, reactive, fearful, and aggressive animals. I'm happy to take my time and go slow with pets that are nervous! I was initially raised on the ranch to train dogs with very heavy-handed, dominance-based training. Since learning about positive reinforcement and finding the research and data behind it, I no longer ascribe to those views, and I now use positive reinforcement methods only. I will never ever hit your dog, yell at them, become frustrated with them, or take their lunch money! I love training dogs because I get to help improve the relationship people have with their dogs by helping them learn to communicate with each other and coexist peacefully together. Seeing someone bring me a dog they are clearly frustrated with and leave happy and hopeful is my favorite feeling in the world. ❤ That being said, I typically don't offer training services on Rover, but will sometimes make exceptions. Please inquire for pricing and availability. I also grew up with more cats than dogs and am very familiar with their body language and behaviors as well and how they differ from dogs, so I practice feline-oriented positive reinforcement techniques as well. I've had two years experience as a vet tech with a special focus on nutrition, medication for behavioral modification training, and orthopedic medicine. I cannot give you medical advice, but I can absolutely let you know when you should get a vet involved and the kinds of procedures you might expect/ask for. I've been certified through the American Red Cross in pet CPR and first aid, but they have since stopped offering the program so I can no longer take the certification class through them. Rest assured I can still perform CPR or first aid on your pet should the need arise! Along with dogs and cats, I also have quite a bit of experience with fish! I have kept fish since 2017 and worked at a local fish store for 3 years. I've successfully kept hundreds of tanks, from as large as 125 gallons to as small as half a gallon, from freshwater and planted to saltwater and reef. I especially love growing plants, and enjoy nano critters like shrimp, snails, crabs, and amphipods. I typically charge $10 each visit to feed a tank, and charge $1 per gallon of the total tank for 2ater changes. I do have my own tank maintenance kit, complete with siphons, test strips, and water conditioner! Large tanks or tanks with more complicated care can cost more, please inquire for pricing. I also have some experience with birds, guinea pigs, rabbits, snakes, tarantulas, scorpions, and more, but have not had as much experience or exposure as I have with dogs, cats, and fish. I'm up for anything however! Most exotic critters I will charge about $10-$15 per visit for, but it depends on the critters and the level of care they require. Feel free to inquire on prices! Before I leave at each visit, I always make sure pets have all their basic needs met, such as food, water, and bathroom breaks, but I also make sure they are physically and mentally stimulated and have been tired out so they are more likely to relax and sleep when I leave instead of staying riled up and possibly look for trouble to get into. I'm a worrier, I will always double-check kennel latches and door locks before I leave.

This is hands down the best cat sitter we have ever booked! Adeline was extremely professional and very personable. She gave us frequent updates, fantastic pictures, and kept two way communication throughout the booking. I felt confident leaving my cats in her hands, and they seemed to enjoy her company and care.

While in my client's home, I make sure basic necessities are taken care of first, like food, water, and bathroom needs. Afterwards, it's play time or time for a walk! Once we're done, one more bathroom break if needed.

Information Adeline J. would like to know about your pet

Please let me know your dog's behaviors during walks, such as if they will try and eat things off the ground, how they react to other people, animals, cars, loud noises, etc. That way I can plan ahead and prevent unwanted/panicked behaviors before they happen. And let me know how you prefer to train them and the commands you use, so I can continue your practices and not confuse your dog! I will not use aversive training equipment such as shock collars, prong collars, choke chains, etc. If your dog has been trained with these tools and you need them to be used during walks or visits, you will unfortunately have to find someone who is comfortable using these tools.

A typical day

I like to take my client's dogs to walk through nice neighborhoods. I enjoy playing fetch and have a 100ft leash to use in case there is no fenced backyard, playing tug, teaching new tricks, and doing a bit of running. I always bring extra treats, toys, and water! I always use two leashes in case one breaks, and I also carry several tools with me to defend against loose dogs or other animals during walks, such as an umbrella and boat horn to scare them away if necessary. Pepper spray gel is part of my arsenal, the gel does not spread in the air like traditional pepper spray does, so there is a much lower risk of collateral damage to me and your dog. I have also started carrying a stun baton since being attacked by a very large, aggressive dog while walking a client's dog, but I have not had to use it yet. My client's dog was unharmed thanks to the tools I already had on me and some quick thinking! I am quite strong for my size, so if needed I can carry dogs weighing up to 70 pounds back home if they become injured.
