My name is Adelina Standish, Addy for short, and I know that I would be the perfect person to care for your animals! I’m a recent graduate from Colorado State University, where I studied Zoology, seeking a career as an animal behavior researcher, zookeeper, or somewhere in between! I completed a zookeeping internship at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo last summer working with the smaller monkeys, sloths, coatis, mountain tapirs, asiatic black bears, and rocky mountain goats, where I learned even more about animal husbandry and training! I also interned at the Monterey Bay Aquarium, where I was part of the Sea Otter Research and Conservation program, helping rehabilitate sea otters back to the wild! I am currently on my 3rd season of fieldwork on the Carmel River, rescuing and relocating endangered tadpoles. I am extremely passionate about animal welfare, so you can ensure I will take great care and detail when caring for your pets. As far as my experience goes, I have worked with dogs, cats, horses, reptiles, and livestock, exotic wildlife, and I am open to working with more species! My family has always had lots of dogs, some households with over 5 at a time, and I have had to care for them several times by myself. I have dealt with problems like separation anxiety, leash pulling, and senior problems, such as incontinence and dementia. I have also had to care for them and my own dog after surgeries, such as changing bandages and dressings, and giving them medicines, both pill and shot forms. I also frequently cared for my neighbor’s dog and cats, as well as friends’ pets, including a snake! In high school, I worked as a barn manager and horse leader for Ride to Walk, an equine therapy facility that helps kids and young adults with disabilities physically, mentally, and emotionally. My job included grooming, tacking, and leading horses during the therapy sessions, as well as prioritizing the safety and happiness of everyone involved, including the horses. At CSU, I continued that by volunteering every week with their therapeutic riding program. Additionally, I have further experience with caring for horses; I would watch my grandma's property, which included caring for her 3-5 horses, all with varying needs. I have dressed wounds, soaked hooves in Epsom salt baths, hand fed hay cubes to her aging horse, and helped with training. Now having some professional experience, I know and love animals, I have spent my whole life caring for them, and I plan to spend my future caring for them! I am highly self-motivated, hard-working, and responsible, and I would love to show you all I can do for you and your pets!
