I have been around cats and dogs for almost my entire life, cats for most of it. I have taken care of cats since about when I started high school, which is about the time one of my cats was diagnosed with diabetes and I was the one who took care of feeding and giving him his insulin via injection, and am able to take blood sugar meter readings from his paw. I very very much love all cats and am very good and friendly with most animals I come across. My experience caring for dogs is a bit more limited, but I did have a chihuahua for a while that I would have to feed, walk, and take care for several years, as well.
