Pet Sitting Offered

Pet care experience

*Security Clearance* Hi there! My name is Abbey and I reside in the Bay Area. I just graduated in the summer with my Master's and I am now working full-time remotely. In the meantime, I am looking to care for your pets- one of my favorite things to do! I have 6 years of experience with pet sitting outside of my own pets- cats, dogs, birds, hampsters, etc. I’m more than happy to provide overnight care, administer medication if needed, walks, exercise, etc. I have my own transportation. I am also available with short notices! I hope to hear from you! Please note- if you pet destroys any property, you would be expected to refund me for the damages.

2 stars because Abbey did the best she could. This sitting situation was an unfortunate experience for both parties. My puppy Zeek (1 year old) was there 5 nights and had an accident every night. He is not use to being left alone all night and I think this created anxiety for him. I had hoped after the first night that Zeek had an accident, that Abbey would have locked Zeek up at night but to no avail. He continued to be left alone all night in the living room, which ended in more accidents and damage to furniture. On a side note, I never leave Zeek to roam at night as he either sleeps in the room w/ me or his crate. Prior to dropping Zeek off, I communicated this with Abbey, letting her know that he sleeps in the room with me as well as other sitters who’ve watched him. I thought this was standard care when it comes to a dog. Abbey reported that Zeek had chewed through her rug when he was left alone, which I sent her money for and unfortunately since I was away didn’t have the capabilities to come and get him. This incident occurred during the first day of his stay. Zeek continued to be left alone at night and continued to have accidents. To Abbey’s credit she did state she walked Zeek 5 times a day (I only take him twice a day) and thought that because of that he shouldn’t be having accidents. It was unfortunate she didn’t connect the dots between the night time situation and Zeek’s continued anxiety. The final night he chewed through her couch. As soon as Abbey saw this, she requested to end the reservation 2 days early so I reached out to my gf who was able to move her travel around to go pick him up. This was a challenge because she isn’t a dog person. My gf had him for a couple days and when I finally got back and asked about his behavior she said he was fine. He slept in the room with her, she locked him up whenever she went out and that probably the only headache is the kid likes to play around a lot. For me it boiled down to her knowledge of dog sitting and paying attention to what’s happening for the dog. Again, an unfortunate situation for both parties. Zeek has been to other sitters and hasn’t had any problems, so this was a new situation for me. I was completely surprised at how quickly Abbey blamed me for these incidents, stating that I should have brought Zeek’s crate, informed her about his behavior and no pet should be destroying property when left alone. She even misconstrued the sitter feedback notes on my profile to create a narrative of Zeek being this terrible dog who destroys sitter’s items. She took no accountability for her negligence nor did she take the time to read my profile notes or feedback from other sitters until after the stay. My notes explicitly say that I keep Zeek contained in a play pen area or his crate when left alone. The take away for me is not assuming that every sitter understands that leaving a 1 year old puppy alone in the house,(especially one they’re not familiar with) at night is a huge no, no. For future sitters I will certainly be discussing their practice so that we can all be on the same page, especially since there can be a variance in care when it comes to dogs.

Abbey was really awesome in almost every aspect of taking care of my dog. Her dog LuLu is also adorable and got along well with my dog. Unfortunately, Abbey had to leave for work multiple times during the week and while she was out my dog was howling (assumingly from separation anxiety) and Abbey had to pay for someone to keep the noise down for her neighbor. I said I would help pay but it’s not something you’re expecting to have additional costs for when you drop your dog off. Abbey was great but I don’t think my dog was a good fit for that space.

Abbey was wonderful with my dog Teddy! I was nervous leaving him since he’s so attached but Abbey sent tons of updates and photos of him playing with her dog Lulu. Made my time away so much easier. ❤️
