A Man with a Best Friend vacancy.

Pet care experience

I grew up in a rural area with all sorts of animals and have had dogs, cats, aquarium fish, frogs, newts, anoles, hamsters, chickens, a cockatiel, goats, miniature donkeys, and horses, unless I am forgetting something. My first dogs were MacGregor (an Irish Setter) and Andy (a Brittany Spaniel, a car impact survivor with a limp), then Zoie (a Chow/Kelpie/? mix, the puppy I raised), Daisy (a Border Collie/Labrador, a rescue from an airport kennel) and finally Pepper (an Australian Shepard/Border Collie, another rescue). I also assisted in raising a Chihuahua for an inexperienced friend for a few years, and my grandmother has always had 3-5 German Shepards that have undergone K9 training and a German Shorthair on-hand for hunting. I currently do not own a dog because my house is always under construction and I do not feel it is a safe environment for a dog that is not already very well trained. Someday, I'll get a lil' friend of my own again; my friend's cat lived with me for a year while he was in China, so that was a good time! Otherwise, I hang out with my parents' dog, Callie, a Border Collie/miniature Australian Shepherd mix. Most of my dogs had experienced some trauma before I met them, so I am familiar with the strange neurosis that can develop and am not phased by it; it is simply something you work through, and usually, they turn out pretty okay when treated well and are properly socialized again. I'm not skittish around large or unpredictable beasts. I believe all dogs are good, and poor behavior is not an inherent personality trait. I am a calm person, and find most dogs respond well to an even temperament. Few things are nicer than having a quiet sitdown with a furry friend at the end of a long day. I have Basic Life Support (First aid/CPR) training for humans through the American Heart Association, Wilderness First Aid training through NOLS, and get regular training in emergency medicine through the fire department, in addition to knowledge of dog first aid/CPR. I have been donating 3% of my Rover revenue to the Humane Society.

I have 3 high strung pups...Aaron was amazing! Roscoe doesn’t let anyone pet him...Aaron had him rolling over for belly rubs!!! He is truly a dog-person...even with the ones that are a bit ‘stressed’. Thanks for taking such great care of our pups! Welcome to the pack!

Thank you Aaron for taking such great care of the dogs over the holidays. I am sure they were most comfortable in their own home, and not at a boarder. We will definitely try to schedule you for our next vacation. Happy new year.

Information Aaron N. would like to know about your pet

Anything you find pertinent is good to know, but it's not all that important. Dogs will give you their personality pretty quickly, in my experience, and you interact with them accordingly.

A typical day

I enjoy going for walks anyway myself, so its simply an excuse to go for a stroll if I have a friend with me. All our dogs were trained to sit, stay, lie down, shake, roll over, heel, etc, so I am familiar with training dogs, if they have been working with you on something in particular you'd like reinforced.
