2017-07-24 21:22:27 -0500 commented answer Are the DogVacay Sitters in your area undercutting your business with lowball pricing?

Oh for God's sake. Of course I know these things. Can't a girl vent a little?? SMDH.

What can I say? Canadians are smart & Americans are cheap (joking) I didn't mean to imply this is DV Sitters' fault. I'm aggravated by Rover bigshots making $$ off ALL of us & don't give a darn they threw a HUGE curve ball at their existing Sitters with no compensation while they line their pockets

2017-07-23 22:02:19 -0500 commented answer Why do Owners expect a refund when they cancel last minute?

AMEN! Fannie. You are 100% correct about all of this. One woman got super nasty (even AFTER I had Rover refund her 100%)... to her I say "Good riddance" I think I dodged a bullet by not boarding her dog.

You do mostly walking, correct? A boarding cancellation is entirely different.

2017-07-22 08:28:28 -0500 asked a question Why do Owners expect a refund when they cancel last minute?

I absolutely hate it when an Owner has to cancel. Mainly because they expect a full refund no matter what. My policy is set to Strict. I've had too many situations over my 2 years of doing Rover to leave it at that Moderate Setting.

No matter how hard I try to be professional, respectful and fair when it comes to these Cancellations the Owners LOSE it when they find out they are not getting a full refund.

I always offer to give them a 50% discount on their next stay for however many days they just had to cancel. Apparently that's not good enough. GGRRrrrr....

Am I delusional that people should realize if they are going to take up one of my spots they can't just cancel and leave me without the opportunity to replace that income?

2017-07-22 08:17:19 -0500 asked a question Are the DogVacay Sitters in your area undercutting your business with lowball pricing?

I'm used to seeing new faces pop-up in the search with that $25 price as part of what Rover does to help new sitters. That is not an issue because they usually have little to no reviews or repeat clients, so Owners can see why my price is higher by comparing those things. However, with the DogVacay sitters they have high review numbers AND a low price. Has anyone else noticed this? I'm wondering because I think Rover suggested they all do this because ALL of them have that price.

This is a truly crappy thing Rover has done to us Sitters that have been their backbone for the past few years. I've had a few clients call and ask if I'm willing to drop my price because they are seeing these other lower rates. I've even lost two former repeat clients to a DogVacay woman in my area. Doesn't matter how much a client likes me... they want to save money.

This merger might have been great for lining the pockets of the investors and board members but it STINKS for us Sitters.

Did your funds show up yet?

2017-05-30 10:18:40 -0500 answered a question Why do I need to pay for the service in advance of the stay?

Paying ahead ensures that the Sitter will be paid in the end. The Sitter does not actually receive the money until 48 hours after the Service is complete. That way in the unlikely event that there was a problem with the Service the Owner has an opportunity to dispute the charge.

REally?? two down votes for an answer that is correct. You Rover Sitters are a hostile bunch.

2017-04-13 10:29:32 -0500 answered a question Are background checks mandatory or voluntary?

Next to the Sitter's photo and name in Search results you will see an icon that is a blue circle/white shield/red check. If that is not there then no background check was done.

Here is more info on the subject https://www.rover.com/background-checks/

2017-04-13 10:25:52 -0500 commented question How to leave feedback for a sitter you scheduled for a consult but never showed or answered text?

That is a GREAT idea. There should definitely be a way to reflect a no-show situation instead of only reviewing Sitters for work done. Rover Support readily takes suggestions. This is a good one!

2017-04-10 07:47:09 -0500 commented answer Is this profile trustworthy or a scam?

Nice to know I'm not the only one who's had this experience w/ Rover. I even know a Sitter whose profile got taken down because Owner claimed she stole her dogs toys. Mind you the Owner lied about her dogs (had 2 not 1!), was late picking up etc. No consequence to Owner but the Sitter got banned.

2017-04-10 07:29:22 -0500 commented answer Rover & DogVacay Joining Forces ?

Hallelujah!!! I could not agree more. Rover treats Sitters like chattel and Owners like Gods.

2017-04-10 07:26:17 -0500 commented question More direct competition since buyout/merger?

I was on Rover this morning to handle money transactions and send photos. I noticed yet another influx of at least 10 new Sitters within a mile and half of me, of course all charging far less than I do. This is getting ridiculous.

2017-04-10 07:10:50 -0500 answered a question Is Easter sunday considered a holiday for rover ? If so is the entire week before or after included?

Here we go with the whole Easter pricing thing again. (insert eye roll)

I still cannot figure out why Rover won't just make Easter an automatic Holiday Rate. I mean now they even make a point of adding that pinkish box to Sitters' thumbnail profiles in Search results that states "Confirmed Easter Weekend Availability"

It's a rotten thing to do to us Sitters to put us in the position of saying to an Owner "Oh gee, I know you saw my rate as $X for Easter but I'm really going to charge you $X+"

But to answer your question... Rover will automatically charge every day of the stay at Holiday rate if any portion of it falls on what they consider a Holiday. However, you have control over that.

For instance, I modify Holiday bookings to charge Holiday Rate for 3 or 4 days leading up to the Holiday and 1 or 2 days after at Holiday rate. There is some wiggle room there because not all Holidays are the same. Example: If someone books with me for a week over Christmas that entire time is Holiday rate. But 4th of July is really just a one-day Holiday so I leave myself some latitude to decide what days I'll charge Holiday around that, it has to do with if it falls on a weekend, how much demand there is etc.

2017-04-10 07:05:23 -0500 commented question Why do I show 90% when I always respond 100% to every request?

Which part of the scoring are you referring to? When I look at your Profile I see 100% response rate.

2017-04-10 07:01:36 -0500 answered a question Any promo codes or coupons for current customers?

I charge $5 less per night once the stay goes over 7 nights. There is even a provision for this within the Sitter's profile set-up. Ask your Sitter about his/her "Extended Stay" rate.

2017-04-10 06:58:38 -0500 answered a question how do I delete canine-client photos that I do not want to appear?

Once it is posted you cannot control what is a part of those photos on your profile. I know, right?? I've wanted to do this too and was told there is no way to edit those by Rover support. The only control you have over what appears publicly is to uncheck the box under the "Upload photo" "Choose file" part of the message when you send it. UGH.

2017-04-07 15:06:42 -0500 commented answer More direct competition since buyout/merger?

Right. And you live in an area that is more than 10x the population density of where I live.

2017-04-07 14:36:05 -0500 commented answer More direct competition since buyout/merger?

That doesn't mean that DV Sitters won't make the jump to Rover on their own...
