Reported to Animal Control and Business License issues in Nevada?

Hi,

We already have two dogs in the house and we are currently sitting two other dogs, 4 totals in total.

The dogs are very well behaved and we supervise them outside for 30 minutes, three times a day. They are quiet and well behaved indoors, and sleep through the night.

We had a visit from animal control in Nevada today, there was a woman telling us that there is a limit of 3 dogs, otherwise you need a business license. I think one of our unsavoury neighbours has said something

Has anybody had any experience with this? Does Rover offer any help or support with this? Is this true?

It looks like a home-based business permit in Las Vegas, NV is $50. Here's the link to the gov't web site. http://www.lasvegasnevada.gov/faces/h...afrLoop=1493480643842922&afrWindowMode=0&adf.ctrl-state=10c3kvvf0c596 I'd suggest you could contact them to make sure you understand all the expectations and they'll be in the best source to support you in becoming licensed. There was also a clause about business being invisible to neighbors re traffic & noise. Maybe sitting would be less apparent if only 2 dogs at a time went out to play (2 in, 2 out, taking turns).

Under your area pet licensing, it states Rabies vaccinations are required of all dogs/cats/ferrets older than 3 months. http://www.lasvegasnevada.gov/faces/h...afrLoop=1493871567379241&afrWindowMode=0&adf.ctrl-state=10c3kvvf0c1253
Here's more to read about that (maybe that will answer whatever you find strange): http://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/vpd-vac/r...

I don't know that a pet fancier permit will work for you. Before reading Jean's reply, I read on their website: "Dog fancier means any person owning, keeping, or possessing on his/her property... up to six adult dogs for the purpose of showing in recognized dog shows, field trials or obedience trials, for working and hunting, or for improving the variety of breed in temperament or confirmation with a view in exhibition in shows or trials or for use as working dogs in hunting... registered with at least one association recognized by the Animal Regulation Officer, and must be entered in at least one dog show per calendar year or, if spayed or neutered, need not be so registered or shown."

I actually looked into this because I was surprised it's so low - that's urban areas for you I guess. The number of dogs allowed is based on the state you live in (maybe the county too, not sure about that part). Clark county ordinances for Vegas state "No person shall keep more than three dogs over four months of age, nor more than three cats over four months of age, at any one place, or on any premises, or in any one residence located within the jurisdiction of the county." You can get a special permit to allow you to have more dogs/cats on your property, which is called a pet or dog fancier permit, which would let you have up to six dogs or 10 cats. The cost is $50 per year, and your property would be inspected by an animal control officer.

Beware that in Vegas, ALL dogs and cats have to be spayed/neutered if they are in your care (unless the owner has a special breeder/show permit).

I doubt Rover would be able to help, and they may even consider this a violation of their terms of service. Their terms of service covers this so that the responsibility is on the pet sitter to make sure they're in compliance will all laws. Their terms of service are here - https://www.rover.com/tos/ (Section 2.3.1 and 4.1.4 apply).

I really hope you don't get fined or get a misdemeanor or anything. Any idea if animal control was giving you a warning so you could fix it?

Thank you very much for the informative response! If we were to get the pet fancier permit, the "six dogs or 10 cats" part, is that one or the other? I know you can have 3 dogs AND 3 cats, but this part was unclear when I read up on it. They also told me I needed to have a business licence for

this. I'm not sure how much a business licence is, or what the business licence threshold is? (i suppose it's based on income for one activity or something?) Its getting very expensive and we're thinking of stopping the sitting to be honest. We already have 2 dogs, so already we're almost at the

limit with this.

I also noticed that each animal needs a rabies certificate renewal every 3 years. Which is rather strange!

I'm glad it was helpful. Yeah I'm not sure if you can have a ton of dogs and cats together or not, but you may not want more than 6 animals anyways. I would contact some people (probably at your clerk's office) to ask what's required of you to house more than 3 animals. Animal control may be calling it a "business license" when really it's just a fancier permit. I highly doubt you need a business license, but who knows. I would be very surprised if the ordinances neglected to mention you need a business license. Just call some folks who would be authorities on the issue, ask them to refer you to specific ordinances that back up what they're saying, and make note of the name of the people you talk to and when you spoke to them in case someone disagrees...
