How are you advertising your services?

Hello all! I am wondering what you all do to advertise your dog sitting services. I am still waiting on my first client and have posted on facebook, craigslist, and nextdoor. I just got my set of business cards. I am wondering, how/where do you guys give them out that seems to work best? I would appreciate any suggestions at all!

Thanks :)

I put my card any where there are poop bag stations. They are in parks, trails, pet store and even some apartments have poop bag stations. I also leave them in local vet offices and any restaurant with a bulletin boards.

I spend a ton of time at the dog park but I let people ask for them there. I don't want to be pushy.

Hope that helps. Amber G.

Hey Amber I had a similar situation as Kelly, did you have to get approved by your city to leave them at the poop bag stations also in the parks and trails? How did you go about getting approval if so?

Hi Kelly: I hope you don't mind, but I took a peek at your profile...and it's great! Once people in your area see it, I don't think you'll have to wait long before requests come in! I agree with what Amber said on where to hand out business cards. You're off to a good start with posting on Facebook, Craigslist, and Next-door. Have you considered creating a flyer with tear-off tags to post on your local grocery store and/or community bulletin boards? I created one by taking a snip of my profile and having my discount code and URL as the tear-offs, with a little sales pitch at the top to grab attention. I used Microsoft Publisher to create it. I have gotten clients from handing out business cards and from my flyer. I have also ordered yard signs (from Vistaprint) to post near the conservancy that everyone takes their dogs for daily runs/walks, but I haven't posted them yet....I'm waiting for the snow to melt first! You might want to consider getting yard signs and posting them near that dog park you mentioned in your profile.

Hi again! I just ordered post cards from Vistaprint. The Rover post cards are nice, however, I wanted to cross out the word "nightly" in the "Affordable nightly rates" bullet, but can't do that. Anyway, once you start doing walks, you can drop off post cards at the houses you pass that have dogs barking (and nobody's home). After your walk is done, of course! Vistaprint has postcards on sale right now so I thought I'd mention it.

Thank you so much for the feedback! The flyer with tear offs is something I've considered too but have not put into reality yet. I think it's a good suggestion for sure. I love vistaprint! Used them for my wedding invitations, programs, and thank you cards. I think the post cards or flyers are great when you know someone has a dog. Are you thinking of putting them in the door or the mailbox? Thanks!

I was going to put them on the door or maybe the newspaper box because you (legally, I think) are not supposed to put anything but mail in mailboxes.

Oh, okay, I did not think about that. Good point.
