Are sitters who come into your home required to be licensed and bonded?

We put a lot of trust in those we allow into our homes, especially when it is someone new, whom we don't know well, Many private sitters are licensed and bonded, does Rover.com require this of it's sitters/walkers?

Hi Jennifer, when you are looking for sitters, also look for the background check icon on their profile. This will indicate that they have passed a background check before becoming a sitter. It looks like this:

Rover requires that sitters follow your local laws and regulations regarding licensing and other requirements.

Requirements vary by location, so we encourage sitters to check with their local Animal Control to learn about the regulations where they live.

Often, licensing regulations apply only to facilities that handle a high volume of dogs. If a sitter watches one or two dogs at a time, they may not need a license. Nevertheless, it’s a good idea to check your local regulations.

Rover does require that sitters follow your local laws and regulations regarding licensing and other requirements. Bonding for single individual isn't available (of the who one has the insurance) by insurance agencies because the theft of the individual with the insurance is seen as an intentional act.

Bonding is for company's with employees, in which the company or owners who has the insurance would cover you if their employee ever stole something. If there was an instance where someone stole something from your own home (say you hired a contractor) you'd either need to file a claim with your home owners insurance or seek legal action against them personally.

Hope that helps!
