How Safe is Rover for Sitters?

Hi all, I recently joined Rover and just got my first booking request. However, the client just joined Rover today, has no information about his dog or him on his profile, and no photos of him or the dog. I know he probably just has to go out of town unexpectedly and just joined Rover, but it seems a little off to me that his profile is so empty. My question is, how/does Rover ensure safety of sitters? I know they take great lengths to provide background checks and such for the sitters before letting clients book, but do the clients also have to pass a background check? Thanks!

No, clients do not go through any background check. They are only required, and this only when they are actually booking their stays, to provide with a credit card. Also, if a sitter for any reason asks Rover for information regarding clients, you receive practically nothing. So, to answer your question, a client who is a complete stranger can have access to your home, and keep on being a complete stranger even after you book with them several times. It is up to the client to reveal information to you. While they know who you are and where you live.

Hi Clare,

This topic was recently discussed, so I'm pasting the link below. In addition, since there is no information, I'd highly recommend that you ask several questions (including asking about all the missing dog profile information) before a meet & greet and you may also choose to contact Rover Support as they can see all his activity, which you can't, to review if his communications seem alarming.

In any case, you need to trust your instincts and I'd suggest always start a meet& greet outside, where you can end it if you think something is not right.

Meet and Greet helps. Get as much info as possible before the meet and greet. Many people are last minute with Rover and most of my clients were new to Rover so that can be normal. However, I am always very careful with all clients. I have flagged people for fishing scams. Use good judgment!
