What do I do if I was paid Adult dog price for Puppy price?

I have my "First dog " rate a little bit higher than the "additional dog" rate and my "Puppy under 1 Yr" rate is the same as the "first dog". I recently sat for a client who had 3 dogs, one of which was a puppy. The puppy I sat was listed as the first dog rather than one of the adults So both adult dogs were listed as additional dogs. I feel that an adult dog should have been listed first because my puppy rate is different than the additional dog rate. Am I right in assuming that I got ripped off a little and how should I approach the situation to have it rectified if I am right?

EDITI would not confront the owner at all. They probably had no clue what was going on. I was wondering if there was a way to ask Rover that my "first dog" rate only be for adult dogs if there are puppies AND adults involved.

You're right, you did get ripped off a little. However, think about it from the client's view - they are paying you for 3 dogs and have found a way to save themselves $4 per day. That doesn't make it right, just logical.

If it were me, I'd chalk it up to experience and let it go. If the same client hires you again, before confirming your services you can have a discussion about how the pricing will be figured. With any new clients, just make sure before accepting the booking that everything is as it should be.

I always feel that preserving a good relationship with a client is more important than a few dollars; once you burn that bridge you can never cross it again (and neither will any friends your client may have recommended you to).

Thank you! And to be honest, I wouldn't have confronted the client at all. I was more curious as to if there is a way for me to ask Rover that my "first dog" rate only be for adult dogs if there are puppies involved. I feel that if Rover asks me if I charge a different rate for puppies, they should also have a way to make sure that adult dogs are charged the primary adult dog rate. I don't blame the client whatsoever and I would never ask them to pay me more after the fact.

No, you didn't get ripped off. Unless you specify that a puppy does not qualify for the lower additional dog rate, then a client isn't to be faulted for listing the puppy first (which is the same, higher rate).

Been there! I definitely felt a little gyped, but of course it wasn't the owner's fault. You absolutely did the right thing in not confronting the owner. The only thing you could do is contact Rover and give them feedback like "you may want to charge the highest rate first, THEN the additional dog rate" kind of thing, but at this point that's all you could do. Actually, Rover should probably have an "additional puppy rate" alongside their additional dog rate, or at least charge the puppy first no matter what order their are listed in the owner's profile. (I don't think they do those things as of right now.)

The way you have your rates set up, you're not charging any differently for puppies than you are for adult dogs, so the discount for additional dogs wouldn't be affected by the age of the dog. If you charged a higher rate for puppies, it would make sense for the additional dog rate for a puppy to be higher than the additional dog rate for an adult, but since you charge the same base rate regardless of whether or not a dog is a puppy, why would you expect the full rate for a second dog who is younger?
