what are the best toys that keep pitbulls busy for long?

toys to avoid property damage

Good question! The pibulls I sit for aren't into fetching at all, but they do seem to like tug-o-war...at a moderate pace (I only allow a short time or they get carried away!). I'm only there for the 30 minute drop-in, so we don't get a lot of play time...but I would like to mix it up a bit! I do go over some training/tricks their pet parent showed me....then reward with treats!

The best things that will keep a Pit bull busy are Kongs stuffed with dry kibble and sealed up with peanut butter on both ends and put in a plastic bag and freeze for a few hours, another are stuffed animals, you make little holes in the stuffed animals and put treats in the different holes so that they will have to dig to get the treats.

I agree, my dog loves his Kong and it keeps him busy all the time!

That's totally going to depend on the individual dog and what they are interested in. The pit bulls and mixes I've watched have enjoyed a variety of activities, like tug toys, balls, puzzle toys, long walks, running with my bike, playing with other dogs, sleeping the day away on my couch... Having a variety of toys and activities at your disposal will be important for any guests you have, from chihuahuas to mastiffs.

My husband and I have had great success with Kongs - the BLACK ones (aka the strongest ones). You could also look for a really durable tire toy. Kong has some that I haven't used. Definitely get some stuffable chew toys and fill them with peanut butter. You can freeze it as well, as Darla said. This is the Kong we like - you can fill it with peanut butter, etc. http://amzn.com/B0002AR0II Here's the tire Kong tire - http://amzn.com/B007B6VU3W They also have Kong balls that are highly rated - http://amzn.com/B004VBC0SY These are all on Amazon, but you can find them elsewhere, too. You can also look up "DIY dog puzzles" on Google or Instructables to find easy-to-build interactive dog toys to mentally stimulate your dogs so their brain gets tired, not just their teeth.

When I had my pitbull she loved the big rubber round toys and tug ropes. Just watch out that yours doesn't chew and eat the fibers and the rubber. Mine never did, but every dog is different. Training a pitty is so easy! They learn super fast too so that's a plus if you're trying to teach him/her.

I own Pitts and my big guy will chew through everything. He has chewed up every toy that says Pittbull tested and approved. He even chewed through a toy that says TIGER tested and approved. I tryed to return the Kong toys to the pet shop I got them at and they would not take them back and told me to contact the Kong manufacturer. Luckily he doesn't eat what he chews off. That being said my younger Pit Mix chews and swallows everything. His favorite is the rope toys. Once he gets the twisted part untwisted he chews it off and swallows it. Luckily he passes it. Makes for colorful poops!

This should give you an idea of what Pitts can do but not every pit is the same as far as chewing and toys. I have found that what has been working lately is to stuff a Kong (Use the large durable kind) with peanut butter. Really get it in there with a spoon and coat the sides even. Then freeze it. It keeps them busy for a while. I would supervise them since you don't know how they will take to it. The pet store also sells Kong stuffers but they are pricey. I don't recommend tugging games for Pits because they can get worked up and have the potential to get aggressive. Good luck.

My pit loves squeaky toys. It keeps him entertained for long periods of time. I recommend a rubber or other material, though. He recently had a long, fuzzy duck that had squeakers in its head, each hand & foot. He absolutely loved it, but it got stinky because of his drool & the type of material. He also loves chewing on sticks. I try to stay clear of the smaller ones that he can easily chew quick & swallow little pieces.

Nylabone has some tough toys that have stood up to my Boxer/Lab. He is an intense chewer! We also have the black Kong and he has yet to destroy that. We give that to him with frozen peanut butter.

My pittie is a very determined chewer. Most of his Christmas presents didn't live to see the next day. I've had a lot of luck with elk antlers and Tuffy brand toys rated 8 & up.
