How do I get my dog to stop pulling on his leash?

My dog pulls very hard on his leash when we are walking!

Where do you position the collar? when you are training you want to put the lead not down at the base but higher up the neck behind the ears. The base of the neck is the strongest pull point on a Dog that's why when you tug back it's not effective. Go higher.

I find that doing "the crazy walk" works best. You just change directions every time they start pulling. I call it the crazy walk because you look weird doing it. But they catch on fast.

One way that I have used is to stop walking every time the dog pulls. Then bring him back to your side. Praise him every time he walks without pulling and give treats. He will eventually get the message that you are not going anywhere if he pulls.

If you have a Petco near you, we offer a loose leash workshop, it's only $10. Try a harness that you can attach the leash to in front of your dogs chest. Any time your dog starts to pull stop walking and wait. Also try teaching your dog heel.
