Do you stay overnight when you are a traveling sitter?

Hi, I'm new at Rover.com. Do you usually stay overnight with your dogs? Thanks :)

Comments

depends on the client. I have one client who likes for me to stay because his dogs some times need to be let out in the middle of the night.

I'm new to this sight and I'm looking for someone to stay in our home with our 3 dogs. Can you please send me information on how I go about this? Thank you.

My husband and I do both boarding and traveling sitter services. Because we have dogs almost all the time in our care, we prefer not to stay at the client's home. We may have several dogs at our home and more than one traveling gig, so we add an up-charge of $35/night for staying all night.

Thanks, Erica. I am new to http://Rover.com. I wasn't sure how people do it. Anyone else stay over or not stay over? Sandy

Hi Sandy,

Much like the others on this board, as a Rover sitter, I leave it totally up to the owner. I usually offer a discounted rate if they do not want me to stay overnight. A good amount of owners are content with their dogs being alone overnight since they'll be sleeping anyway. However, with the travel sitting service, I plan to stay overnight in the dog's home unless the owner tells me otherwise. Whichever sitters you contact directly will let you know how they handle things!

Hi Sandy,

In my experience, this is often discussed during the meet&greet. That's the best time to find out more about the pets and the owner's preferences. Although I offer traveling sitter services too, I've found that it's rare for the pet parents to need me to stay overnight, even though I'm their only dog care provider. Usually, if away, they prefer 3 or 4 walks, and often encourage me to spend extra time with the dogs throughout the day/evening if my availability allows.

If the owner specifically asks me to stay overnight, then I will. If the owner leaves the decision to stay or leave up to me, then I do which ever is easiest for me and my daily schedule.

I usually stay at the sitter's house if they offer it since I am a traveling sitter.

I will stay overnights if requested. Sometimes the owners don't realize that sitters are willing to provide this extended service, so when you ask them if they'd like you to stay the night, often they are pleasantly surprised that it's something you're willing to offer.

Hi Sandy,

Rover offers two different types of dog sitting: In the sitter's home and in your own home (travel sitting). When searching for a sitter, you can choose to search for either type of care.
