What should I ask an owner before a stay?

I have a good idea of what basic questions to ask an owner before a stay, but I'm just wondering what others ask. Any suggestions?

I ask if the dog or dogs can have treats. What they are allergic to. Do they play well with others.

I've got a document through Google Drive that I send owners after the Meet and Greet. Generally I cover these questions during the M&G, but this is a good way to get everything important in writing, catch any questions you may have missed, and is especially useful if they use you repeatedly. I put it together after having a couple guests that weren't great fits in my household.

Here's a link to the questionnaire: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1CEXf...

Whenever it's edited, I get an email, and google compiles the responses into a spreadsheet, so I can see everything at a glance. For us, we're only critically concerned about house training and noise, since we rent and have close neighbors, and we don't want to subject them to an unreasonable amount of noise (they aren't being paid, after all!).

Hope this helps!

EDITED TO ADD: It seems someone sent out this link to a potential client (so whoever is going to sit a dog named Charlie, I have his info). The link posted is to the document I developed, and when edited, it adds the info to my client list. If you wish to use a form like this, you must create a new one through Google Drive or another application. Please don't just send this link!!

I'm glad people are finding this useful! Also, there are an awful lot of Lauras in this thread. Hi, other Lauras!

1) Their contact information if something should happen and you need to get a hold of them. 2) Vet information (Name Address phone number) 3) What is the normal routine for the dog? ( When does the dog normally go for a walk? When do they feed the dog [morning, evenings, free feed?] How do they put the dog to bed at night?) 4) How long is the dog normally left alone or how long can you leave the dog alone for? 5) What are the house rules for the dog? ( Is he allowed on the couch? What rooms can he go into?) 6) What kind of commands does the dog know? ( sit, stay, come, off, no) 7) What are some bad habits the dog has and what they do to help fix it? 8) What kind of treats is ok for the dog? Is he allergic to any foods? 9) Really important if you take the dog out for a walk, is there anything that the dog is afraid of or will set him off? 10) Does the dog do anything that only the owner would understand; scratch the arm, whimper, bark , etc?

I always ask specific questions about the dog. How often do they go out? What is their poop schedule? Do they bark? How long can they be left alone? Are they crate trained? Do they go to dog parks? Are they allowed on the furniture at home? Do they get along with other dogs? Do they have allergies?

Great document, I have not so much a question, but more something to discuss... Make sure you find out what the drop off and pick up times are for their dogs. It is important if you choose, to hold the owners to that time. Rover charges per 24 hour increments, so it is important if they don't pick up their dogs within that time frame that they know there will be an extra charge or no extra charge. For example, you have a dog that will be staying with you for one day. The owner drops them off at 10 am on Saturday and is supposed to pick them up at 10 am on Sunday. They call you and say they are going to be late and can't pick the dog up until 2 pm on Sunday. Do you charge extra for that? It is almost another half a day... So just make sure you are clear about your policies with the client and know where you stand.
