Clients return and are locked out of home...what to do?

My clients gave me one front door key and a garage remote to enter home. At end of visit I told them that I would leave both inside on kitchen counter. 4 hours later I get a text saying that they could not get in because I had locked the front door inside dead bolt. I asked why they did not go in through garage and they then told me that they only had one car which was in the garage with the other opener. I had no idea they only had one car and I locked all bolts because on their written instructions they wrote to always have all doors locked even when I m inside. I think they were worried about break ins. So now they were made because they had to call a locksmith and were a little mean. I cried. They tried to blame on me and it really is not my fault they did not communicate this. I feel very bad but had already given tem $85 off my normal rate. Should I do anything?

It's not your fault for following directions, and it's not your fault that they didn't have another key.

Good communication is key to avoiding these types of situations.

It sounds like Both parties (Them & You) forgot to clarify how to return the front door key and garage remote. That’s shared fault – theirs to instruct and yours to ask before booking. I read that you told them what you would do with the end, but that’s not as good because they may not have gotten that message timely and it doesn’t allow for them to respond if that’s acceptable. I think that reasonable people would chalk that up to a learning error and not make it an antagonistic situation, being mean and making someone feel bad. No, I don’t think that you need to do anything else.

Not clear when or why you gave them the $85 discount or what % that is of booked total - But if that’s based on them negotiating immediately following a meet and greet for no basis& because they wanted a lower rate, then that forecasts at what type of clients they’ll be to work with and that maybe they just want to keep having discounts on the service down to nothing.
