Does anyone feed their dogs Pedigree dog food? If so, have you checked it for the strange fibers that are imbedded in the food?

Pedigree recently reported that the fibers found in their dog food won't harm dogs, that it is a natural fiber, like pig hair. Pet owners who have found the fibers in their pet food are stating that they are sharp and their dogs have become ill.

I do not feed my dogs pedigree. No matter what. They have had several recalls and they're imported. I don't trust it. One of my boys got super sick and pissed blood. Could have shut down his kidneys. I know it's cheaper but vet bills are not. Buy better food. Save the pup the pain and suffering and your pockets from vet bills that could have been prevented.

This was on our local news a few days ago. As far as I know, no one has firmly established (via testing) that these fibers are anything other than what the company has said Snopes (the rumor-checking website) has a summary of what has been written/stated here:

and has labeled it as "Undetermined."

Pedigree is one of the worst product lines for health and well being of your dogs. You need to read the ingredients, and really dissect what they mean - and you will never use that brand again. Too many by-products and additives. Why do you think it is so cheap? You are far better off spending more money on a quality food - in the long run your dog will be healthier and have less need to see the vet. Pay now, or Pay later.

Seems probable that the fibers are just what they say, and with all the weird things dogs eat I wouldn't be one bit concerned about pig hair - my dogs eat plenty of their own hair, each other's, mine, bug legs, dirt, whatever. I'd be concerned about their overall diet being the doggy equivalent of eating fast food every day. Junk food has its place, so I'm not one to worry about my dogs getting some crappy treats periodically, but I do want to make sure their regular diet is pretty sound.
