my dog was humped by other male dog, is he scared of the new puppy because of that?

idk if its related but one day my mom came home after a walk with my small dog, saying that the dog in my auntie´s house humped him and that he was gay. we thought it was funny, but after a while i observed that my dog was real quiet and he usually gets happy when he gets home after a walk. we have a big female dog too so he is used to socializing, when he used to see other males he used to get so excited, but idk about puppies, and now, when we brought a new rescued puppy to the house he is very scared. he does not eat where he eats, he shakes when he is too close and walk away, he avoids him and all he touches. at first i thought that it was jealousy because he used to be the only puppy, but now after seeing he shaking im real worried. i stopped trying to force him to look at him and now i´m felling very guilty. There´s something i can do? the new puppy is only here for 3 days, should i wait if this gets better? we live in a small town we don´t have specialists in dogs behavior here. is there anyway we can help? do you guys really think he is traumatized? my poor baby

Dogs depend on us humans to be their advocates for health and safety. Yes, sometimes they give other dog signals to back off, but not always. Sometimes avoidance of another canine is the easier route.

I'd suggest you not force them to interact. Baby gates or an indoor playpen can facilitate keeping them separate, so each dog can feel secure in their own space.

Some dogs do not like humping (to hump or be humped) and some do. I would not allow that activity in my home. Humping is done for many reasons. It does not mean the dog is gay.

i let them free in the house, but the puppy don´t follow him or anything, sometimes he likes to smell, but he is very timid too. I will protect him when he is not felling comfortable, and make sure he feels loved too, thanks man. the gay thing was just a bad taste joke i´m sorry

A lot of dogs are "scared" of new puppies being brought into their home. A lot of dogs do not like puppies. A lot of dogs also do not know what to do with puppies and it's freaking them out. Other dogs hate puppies and will attack them.

Your dog is reacting exactly like my dog did when my family brought in a new puppy. My dog is 7, he's 11 lbs, and the puppy was a bit smaller than him. My little doggie was freaking out. The new puppy was all over the place, loud and moving too fast, and my dog kept running away from him. The puppy loved this new game and just wanted to play and chase and play bite, but my dog just couldn't handle it. He would run away and hide and shake. So I wouldn't let the puppy to bother him anymore. My dog just didn't want to play with him, was scared of him, and eventually tried to nip at him, so that was it. He still doesn't like puppies approaching him, they move fast and crazy and he just won't tolerate it.

So definitely do not let the new puppy to harass your dog. I know, the puppy thinks it's a game. Your dog doesn't think so and doesn't understand this new situation. Be careful, give them time, and keep them separate until your dog gets used to him. Good luck ♥

Yay! That's awesome! Just give them their space and give them time, and they will eventually become friends ♥
