Constant itching?

My chihuahua puppy is almost a year old now and she is always itching and scratching at her back, neck, ears, and face. I have tried giving her a bath once if not twice a week with anti-itching shampoo but it does nothing what should I do I don't wa any her to feel uncomfortable and feel like she has to itch and scratch all the time.

Have you tried any coconut or olive oil—“”natural things can smooth the skin- witch hazel or benedryl creams too- be sure to of course ask your vet 1st. Finding out of course what triggered the episode helps too. I’ve had pets allergic to flea medicine and also fertilizer and yard-I icides.

I have the same problem with my great Dane and pit bull dog. I'm wondering what else I can do to help him out.

I have a very similar problem with my chihuahuas. So first you should take a look at everything, and see if all that looks fine:

  1. What kind of a food do you feed her? High quality or low quality or home made? A lot of dogs suffer from food allergies.

  2. They suffer from grass and environmental allergies too. I have noticed that grass and parks are being sprayed with dangerous chemicals right now, usually they post up a warning, like a small yellow flag saying the lawn has been chemically treated. My dogs would get rash or burns if they walked through that grass. I bought some dog wipes and I try to wipe off their bellies and feet after a walk. Do you wipe off dirt and dust after being outside?

  3. Do you wash off the shampoo lather completely after giving her a bath?
  4. Is the shampoo gentle and natural or does it have a lot of chemicals?
  5. Does your chihuahua have fleas?
  6. How's her skin? Fine or peeling? Dandruff? Red spots? Do you check for foreign bodies stuck in her coat? Like stray pieces of grass or fox tail?

If her skin and paws look fine, her coat is nice and shiny, if she smells good and has no red spots or patches on her skin, then I would suggest you visit a vet, and they will help you. They will be able to tell you if she suffers from allergies and if you need to switch her food, or possibly will prescribe you a prescription hydrolyzed protein food if needed.

Thanks, so she gets homemade and hills puppy kibble, they place we live in does not spray the dog park with their grass chemicals(I checked), yes I always make extra sure she has no soap residue left after her showers(she hates baths), all nature shampoo w/ honeysuckle, no prescription flee tables,

her skin is fine, No peeling no dandruff or red spots, she is soft coated no there isn't usually anything stuck in her fur, no foxtail grass the place where we live removed it before they started building that's one of the reasons they spray the chemicals but there is no real grass in the dog park.

Mosquitoes also can be a factor

Thanks we do have a lot down here but I don't think that is the reason cause she it also itchy in the winter when there are no mosquitoes.

You're bathing too often if it's once or twice a week. Their coats need the oils that they produce. When you do bathe, make sure your pup is completely soap free and crispy dry. Consider asking your vet if you can add a supplement like fish/krill oil.
