What can we do to help our dog relax?

Our 16 month old German shepherd/great Pyrenees sleeps on a kennel in my son's room. If he goes in there at any time & my son is not in there, our dog whines and scrapes at the kennel. Once my son goes on there, he's fine. How can we get our dog to be comfortable without our son being present.

Try using distractions such as toys, treats, bones, etc. to keep him occupied. There are also CBD oils specifically made for dogs that can help with stress and relaxation. A popular website you can find this on is Dogs Naturally or Innovet. Your vet may also be able to recommend some meds that can promote relaxation. Also, it could have to do with how young he is. This is something he could potentially grow out of as he gets older.

Good luck!

You could try to distract the dog with a puzzle toy or taking him on a walk/playing with him.

there are also essential oils that help dogs relax like lavender and chamomile. Just place some in his forehead where he can't kick and see the results in about 15-30 minutes!
